Literacy activity kits available at SFA Steen Library


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Students in Stephen F. Austin State University’s secondary education program created book-based activity kits for children to enjoy while their caregivers study, work or visit campus.

Intended for children in pre-K through sixth grade, the kits can be found on a book cart on the first floor of SFA’s Steen Library. Currently, there are 15 books to choose from that have adjoining activity kits with instructions.

Tickets still available for SFA University Series comedy show


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Tickets are still available to see the comedy of Joe Zimmerman and Justin Smith when they perform in a University Series event at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 22, in W.M. Turner Auditorium, Griffith Fine Arts Building, on the Stephen F. Austin State University  campus.

A favorite of late-night shows such as “The Tonight Show,” “Last Comic Standing” and “Comedy Central,” Zimmerman is a frequent performer on university campuses and at corporate events. His opening act is Justin Smith, a New York City-based comedian from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

SFA’s A Cappella Choir to present preview concert for national conference performance


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The A Cappella Choir at Stephen F. Austin State University is one of only two university choirs to be invited to perform at this year’s Southwestern American Choral Directors Association conference slated for Feb. 27 through March 2 in Denver, Colorado.

The choir, directed by Dr. Michael Murphy, director of choral activities at SFA, will present a preview concert of this performance at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 26, in Cole Concert Hall, Wright Music Building, on the SFA campus.

SFA’s Wind Ensemble to perform Winter Tour Concert


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Wind Ensemble at Stephen F. Austin State University will present its Winter Tour Concert before a hometown crowd after returning to campus following a recruitment tour performing at five high schools in the Dallas area.

Directed by Dr. Tamey Anglley, director of bands at SFA, the Wind Ensemble will perform at 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 25, in W.M. Turner Auditorium, Griffith Fine Arts Building, on the SFA campus.

Selden’s solo exhibition ‘The Space Between’ showing in Brazosport


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Stephen F. Austin State University Professor of Art Lauren Selden will demonstrate and lecture on Feb. 28 in Brazosport in connection with her solo exhibition showing at the Brazosport College Art Gallery.

East Texas Research Center Archive Lab to host a series of workshops during spring semester


NACOGDOCHES, Texas –– Stephen F. Austin State University’s East Texas Research Center is set to host a series of workshops during the spring semester in the newly implemented Archive Lab on the first floor of Steen Library. Presentation topics include document research, genealogy, archival research basics, and digitization and storage.

Schober to perform original compositions, along with works by Mussorgsky, Mendelssohn


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Houston pianist Mary Katherine Schober will present the concert program “Images,” featuring works by Modest Mussorgsky, Felix Mendelssohn and her own original compositions, at 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 24, in Cole Concert Hall on the campus of Stephen F. Austin State University.

Violinist An to perform sonatas by Beethoven


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – South Korean violinist Jeongwon Claire An will present “Celebration of Beethoven – Complete Violin Sonata Series” when she performs at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20, in Cole Concert Hall on the campus of Stephen F. Austin State University.

She will be accompanied by Dr. Minhae Lee, assistant professor of piano in the SFA School of Music. The program will feature Ludwig van Beethoven’s Sonata for Violin and Piano in D major, Op. 12, No. 1; Sonata for Violin and Piano in F major, Op. 24, No. 5; and Sonata for Violin and Piano in G major, Op. 30, No. 3.
