Supporting high achievers with financial need

The Texas Leadership Scholars program helps Texas high school graduates develop leadership skills and earn a higher education.

Eligible undergraduate students selected for the TLS program receive:

 Financial Support

Tuition/fees assistance.
Food/housing scholarship.

 Housing Cohort

On-campus housing placement within a community of TLS program peers.

 Academic Focus

Continuous mentoring.
Research opportunities.
Study abroad programs.

 Leadership Growth

Career-focused training.
Integration into statewide programs.
Texas network of peers and mentors.

Full eligibility requirements

Who is eligible?

Students interested in becoming a Texas Leadership Scholar must meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • Be a Texas resident and a graduating senior from an accredited Texas public high school, including an open-enrollment charter school.
  • Demonstrate financial need and be eligible for the TEXAS Grant, as determined through the FAFSA or TASFA, which must be completed by the recommendation deadline.
  • Demonstrate academic achievement by ranking in the top 10% of their graduating class or providing a recommendation from their high school principal or counselor.
  • Demonstrate leadership and service within their high school and community.
  • Be accepted and enroll full-time in a bachelor's degree program at SFA in the fall semester immediately following high school graduation.

If you meet this criteria, complete the Texas Leadership Scholars application process. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

TLS Application

Maintaining eligibility

Texas Leadership Scholars must continue to meet all program requirements, including:

  • TEXAS Grant eligibility
  • full-time undergraduate enrollment
  • minimum 2.5 GPA
  • and satisfactory academic progress.

Eligible participants may receive financial assistance for up to four years.
