Education

ESL/Bilingual Supplemental Certification - Undergraduate

This four-course online program is designed for K-12 teachers seeking a supplemental certificate for teaching children whose native language is not English or for teaching children whose native language is Spanish.

ESL vs. bilingual - The ESL-certified teacher has knowledge of methods and techniques for teaching that will aid English language learners in the content areas. Teachers provide the necessary modifications to the curriculum that ensure student success and provide a platform for developing a deep understanding of cultural realities that affect learning and the everyday life of the English language learner. Students pursuing the ESL certificate are not required to learn a foreign language. The bilingual-certified teacher can limit confusion encountered in an English-speaking environment by introducing concepts and clarifying information in the child's native language. Students pursuing the bilingual certificate must be proficient in Spanish.
