Career Exploration

Career exploration is a developmental process that evolves over time. It involves learning about yourself and the world of work in order to identify potentially satisfying occupations. This will assist you in developing effective strategies to meet your goals. Evaluate yourself and research the many possibilities for a rewarding career!

To start, utilize these self-assessment documents:

TypeFocus

TypeFocus offers online assessments to explore your personality, interests, values, skills and success factors. The system allows you to combine these results and explore majors, minors and career paths which align with your unique mix of interests. Our team is certified to interpret these assessment results and can help further explore your possibilities through individualized career coaching.

Using TypeFocus is simple:

Log on to TypeFocus using your mySFA credentials.
Take the five assessments.

To discuss your results, log on to your Handshake account and schedule an appointment with a career coach.

Career Closet

Do you need an outfit for a networking event, career fair or even an interview? We have:

clothing items
shoes
jewelry
scarves
and ties

These items are free to borrow, available for all genders and are properly cleaned and pressed thanks to our SFA alumni owned sponsor, VIP Cleaners.

Visit us on the 3rd floor of the Rusk Building to view the inventory or borrow an item.

If you are needing items for a career fair, be sure to visit our office before noon the day before the event.

Use the FIA approach

Find people and companies for whom you would like to work.
Interact with those people via social networks and through private contact. Demonstrate your knowledge and be helpful to them.
Ask (directly or indirectly) those people if they can help you get a job, or if they can put you in contact with someone who can.
