SFA A Cappella Choir to perform works of French composer Fauré


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The A Cappella Choir at Stephen F. Austin State University will present "A Fauré Feast" when the ensemble performs a concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 10, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.

Silver Keys Trio to perform music of Hovatter, Schachter, Williamson


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin State University College of Fine Arts and School of Music will present the Silver Keys Trio in a recital at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 9, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.

The trio includes School of Music faculty Dr. Christina Guenther, flute, and Dr. Geneva Fung, piano, along with bassoonist Dr. Susan Nelson, a former SFA faculty member who is now assistant professor of bassoon at Bowling Green State University in Ohio.

A fixture at SFA for more than half a century, William (Bill) Arscott, professor of art, has no intention of leaving anytime soon. SFA's longest-tenured faculty member came to SFA in fall 1963 and planned to stay a couple of years. However, those intended two years have now exceeded 52.

Concert to feature program based on works of female composers, poets


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Choral Union and Women's Choir will present "In Praise of Women" when the ensembles perform at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 8, in Cole Concert Hall in the Wright Music Building on the campus of Stephen F. Austin State University.

The concert program is based on works by female composers and poets, and on female centered themes, according to Dr. Tod W. Fish, assistant professor and associate director of choral activities in the SFA School of Music.

SFA seniors accepted into Cannes International Film Festival Culinary Program


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Music streams inside the Culinary Café kitchen at Stephen F. Austin State University as seniors Anna Smith and Amanda Powers prepare a dish for a local event. Peeling pears, they read over the recipe, planning out the cooking time, temperature and method for creating the dish. On the stove, a rosemary-red-wine-muscadine sauce simmers. After a taste test proves the sauce is the right consistency, Smith and Powers soak the pears in the sauce for flavoring.

SFA elementary education majors present study at Las Vegas research conference


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin State University students enrolled in the James I. Perkins College of Education recently presented research at the Ethnographic and Qualitative Research Conference in Las Vegas.

Dr. Vicki Thomas, assistant professor of elementary education at SFA, explained this two-day national conference serves as a forum for presentations and engagement of ideas in qualitative research.

Guest artists to perform with SFA's Orchestra of the Pines


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - This year's Schmidbauer Young Artist Competition winner Ethan Le will be among the guest artists who perform when the Orchestra of the Pines presents "Vim and Virtuosity" at 7:30 p.m. Monday, March 7, in Cole Concert Hall on the campus of Stephen F. Austin State University.

"The evening is a potpourri of music selections - a melting pot of variable delights," said Dr. Gene H. Moon, director of orchestras at SFA. "We have two guest artists joining us, both of whom are full of vim and virtuosity."

SFA to host biennial Lone Star Legislative Summit


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin State University is set to host the sixth biennial Lone Star Legislative Summit March 2-3, which will bring more than 20 state lawmakers to SFA's campus to discuss pressing and relevant statewide issues.

Artist's talk, musical performance added feature of Jones exhibition


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House will host an artist's talk and musical performance starting at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 6, in conjunction with the exhibition "East Texas Impressions: The Art of Charles D. Jones," which is currently showing at the downtown gallery.

The comprehensive catalogue of this exhibition will be available for purchase, and Jones will be available to sign following the 2 p.m. artist talk.
