SFA’s Contemporary Ensemble to stream recorded works


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Contemporary Ensemble at Stephen F. Austin State University will stream the ensemble’s recorded works on the SFA School of Music’s YouTube Channel at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 2.

To celebrate the opening of the Sound Recording Technology program’s new recording studios in the Griffith Fine Arts Building, the Contemporary Ensemble most recently focused on producing recorded works, according the James Adams, SRT associate professor and director of the Contemporary Ensemble.

McBroom named SFA’s director of athletics


NACOGDOCHES, Texas –– Michael McBroom has been appointed director of athletics at Stephen F. Austin State University by Interim President Gina Oglesbee and The University of Texas System. Currently serving as director of athletics at West Texas A&M University in Canyon, McBroom will officially join the Department of Athletics on May 15.

Friday Night Film Series to screen student films


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art and the Friends of the Visual Arts will show a selection of short films by current SFA students as a feature of the Friday Night Film Series starting at 7 p.m. Friday, May 3, at The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House.

SFA orchestra, combined choirs to present Williams’ ‘Dona Nobis Pacem’


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – A collaboration between the choral and orchestral departments in the School of Music at Stephen F. Austin State University will bring together the SFA Symphony Orchestra, A Cappella Choir and combined choirs of Kantorei and Singin’ Axes performing Ralph Vaughan Williams’ “Dona Nobis Pacem” at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, May 4, in W.M. Turner Auditorium on the SFA campus.

“Dona Nobis Pacem,” or “Grant Us Peace,” features as vocal soloists music faculty members Dr. Scott LaGraff, baritone, and Debbie Berry, soprano. 

SFA’s Student Activities Association set to host Summer Movie Series


NACOGDOCHES, Texas –– In an effort to keep children and families entertained during the summer months, Stephen F. Austin State University’s Student Activities Association is set to host a number of family-friendly movies during its annual Summer Movie Series in the Baker Pattillo Student Center Theater.

All movies in the series are rated G to PG and will play on Tuesdays and Wednesdays throughout the summer. This year’s movies include:

Bolt: 10 a.m. June 4 and 2 p.m. June 5
Zootopia: 10 a.m. June 11 and 2 p.m. June 12

Two SFA students accepted into Joint Admission Medical Program

SFA’s Fraser named Fulbright Scholar


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Dr. Roslyn Fraser, associate professor of sociology in Stephen F. Austin State University’s Department of Anthropology, Geography and Sociology, has been named Fulbright Scholar for the 2024-25 academic year.

The Fulbright Program, the United States government’s flagship program for international educational and cultural exchange, selects university faculty members and professionals to conduct research, teach and produce artistic and professional projects in other countries in an effort to find solutions to challenges facing our world.

SFA Gardens lecture series to highlight "Pines, Pawpaws and Pocket Prairies"


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s SFA Gardens will host the monthly Theresa and Les Reeves Lecture Series at 7 p.m. May 9 in the Brundrett Conservation Education Building at the Pineywoods Native Plant Center.

Greg Grant, award-winning horticulturist, writer, conservationist, bulb farmer and seventh-generation East Texan, will present “Pines, Pawpaws and Pocket Prairies.”

SFA Trombone Choir to perform eclectic program of works


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Trombone Choir at Stephen F. Austin State University will present an eclectic program of works composed in the last 50 years when the student ensemble performs at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 30, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.
