SFA to host Deep East Texas Travel and Tourism Conference


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Business owners, travel and tourism professionals, and local economic development leaders are invited to the Stephen F. Austin State University campus to attend the Deep East Texas Travel and Tourism Conference from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, May 24, in the Baker Pattillo Student Center Twilight Ballroom.

SFA Music Prep offering summer lessons, camps


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Registration continues for summer lessons and camps offered by the Music Preparatory Division of the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music.

Private lessons will be offered in piano, voice, cello, violin/viola, and trumpet. Summer lessons begin on Monday, May 23, and continue through Friday, July 29. Private lesson schedules will depend on students’ and teachers’ summer availability and can be for four, six, eight or 10 total lessons.

SFA offers new certificate for banking professionals


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Beginning this fall, the Chadwick Family Banking Program in Stephen F. Austin State University’s Rusche College of Business will offer banking professionals access to essential industry courses, allowing them to earn a professional certification in banking.

Designed for banking professionals who do not have an undergraduate banking degree, the 15-hour Banking Essentials Certificate can be completed via livestream and/or in person over one to two years. 

Corporations find workforce talent in SFA’s Rusche College of Business


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Imagine graduating from college without pounding the pavement for a job immediately after receiving a diploma. Stephen F. Austin State University marketing senior Grant Lebkowsky of Flower Mound found himself in that position thanks to the career resources and corporate partnerships in SFA’s Rusche College of Business.

SFA chemistry professor receives U.S. patent


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Dr. Matibur Zamadar, Stephen F. Austin State University associate professor in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, has received a patent from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for his invention regarding therapeutic treatment of bacteria and cancers, and fluorescence diagnosis.
 
Zamadar’s invention relates to methods and compositions for therapeutic treatment to slow or stop the progression of bacteria and cancers, and fluorescence diagnosis.

Registration underway for Junior Jacks theatre day camp


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Registration is underway for Junior Jacks Theatre Camp at Stephen F. Austin State University. The popular two-week School of Theatre camp is designed for children entering third through ninth grades. This year’s camp is scheduled for Monday through Friday, July 25 through 29, and Aug. 1 through 5, with play performances on Saturday, Aug. 6.

Dr. Brian Uriegas recognized for service as chair of SFA’s Faculty Senate


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Dr. Brian Uriegas, assistant professor of human services and educational leadership at Stephen F. Austin State University, was recently presented with a plaque recognizing his dedication and service as Faculty Senate chair by SFA Interim President Dr. Steve Westbrook.
 
“I want to congratulate Dr. Uriegas for his leadership of the Faculty Senate during the past year,” Westbrook said. “Although I returned to SFA at the very end of his term, I know the commitment that is required to fulfill the position he held.”
 

Dr. Dustin Knepp named dean of SFA’s College of Liberal and Applied Arts


NACOGDOCHES, Texas –– Following a nationwide search, Stephen F. Austin State University has named Dr. Dustin Knepp dean of the College of Liberal and Applied Arts.

With 17 years of experience working in higher education, Knepp comes to Nacogdoches from California State University, Bakersfield, where he serves as professor and in various leadership roles, including chair of the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures, co-director of the Center for Social Justice, and chair of the Department Chairs Leadership Council.
