NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Each year, more than 8 million people visit the 90 state parks, historic sites and natural areas managed by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. In order to continue to meet the needs of visitors and offer relevant programming that reaches all Texans, the agency seeks to better understand exactly who these guests are and what motivates them to visit. Three Stephen F. Austin State University graduate students are crisscrossing the state to find out. 

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Theatre’s presentation of the student-directed one-act play “In Shakespeare and the Bible,” originally slated for Feb. 4 and 5, has been rescheduled for March 18 and 19.

The play had to be rescheduled due to the campus closure on Feb. 4 in expectation of inclement weather.

Thornton Wilder’s “In Shakespeare and the Bible” will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 18, and at 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 19, in Regents Suite A in the Baker Pattillo Student Center on the SFA campus.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Symphony Orchestra at Stephen F. Austin State University will present Ludwig van Beethoven’s Triple Concerto and other noted orchestral compositions when the student ensemble performs at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 22, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The School of Music at Stephen F. Austin State University will host Pineywoods Horn Day 2022 Saturday, Feb. 19, in Wright Music Building on the SFA campus.

The all-day event will feature a presentation by and master class with Nacogdoches native and SFA alumnus John Dickson, along with clinics and sessions with Dr. Tamey Anglley, director of bands at SFA; Dr. Andrea Denis, assistant professor of horn at SFA; and noted horn instructors Karen Houghton and Janet Nye.

Austin State University Office of Multicultural Affairs’ eighth annual Diversity Conference, “Engaged and Empowered: Overcoming the Invisible,” will examine diversity, equity and inclusion by providing a platform for presenters to share diversity-related work with conference attendees and engage in vital multicultural dialogue.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas –  The Wind Symphony and Symphonic Band at Stephen F. Austin State University will present “Messages of Hope,” a program featuring works that evoke hope, encouragement and healing, when the student ensembles perform at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 8, in the Grand Ballroom in the Baker Pattillo Student Center on the SFA campus.

Directed by Dr. Chris Kaatz, assistant director of bands at SFA, the Symphonic Band’s program explores the idea of “hope amidst tragedy,” Kaatz said.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The everyday lives of the citizens of the small fictional American town of Grover’s Corners will come to life on the campus of Stephen F. Austin State University when the School of Theatre presents the multi award-winning play by Thornton Wilder, “Our Town.”

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The School of Music at Stephen F. Austin State University will present “Girl Power,” a concert featuring art songs for voice and piano written by women composers, at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 7, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.

The performance will include works by Margaret Bonds, Jennifer Higdon, Lori Laitman, Maria Theresia von Paradies and Caitlin Vincent.
