NACOGDOCHES, Texas — The Stephen F. Austin State University Board of Regents approved the naming of two areas in the McGee Business Building during the recent quarterly meeting.

SFA human sciences alumnus receives Dallas design award


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — A Stephen F. Austin State University interior design alumnus recently received a prestigious award for her work within the Dallas design community. 

Sherine Sebastian and her team at Joanie Wyll and Associates Inc. received second place in the Design Ovation Awards, awarded by the American Society of Interior Designers’ Dallas chapter.

SFA regents approve faculty, staff appointments


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — The Stephen F. Austin State University Board of Regents honored the former SFA provost with the title administrator emeritus at the group’s quarterly meeting.
 
Dr. Steven Bullard, former provost and vice president of academic affairs, started at SFA in 2009 as dean of the Arthur Temple College of Forestry and Agriculture, and served as the Henry M. Rockwell Chair in forestry from 2015 until his retirement June 30. 
 

Planned SFA monuments to honor historically black fraternities and sororities


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Ten granite pillars to be installed on the Stephen F. Austin State University campus will pay homage to the National Pan-Hellenic Council and its “Divine Nine” historically black fraternities and sororities.

The 10 monuments will be erected in two rows of five along a pedestrian-only section of Raguet Street between the McGee Business and Miller Science buildings in the heart of campus. The name of each NPHC Greek organization will be engraved on one of the historic markers, and the 10th pillar will recognize the council as a whole.

SFA names new assistant vice president, dean of students


Stephen F. Austin State University has named a new assistant vice president for student affairs to serve as dean of students. 

Andrew J. Dies recently served as dean of students at Northern Arizona University, where he was chief student conduct officer and the primary contact for students in crisis, in addition to serving on the emergency management team and the academic standards committee.

SFA Gardens to host Lunch Bunch


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s SFA Gardens will host its monthly Lunch Bunch event from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 18, at the Brundrett Conservation Education Building, 2900 Raguet St., in historic Nacogdoches.
 
Participants should bring their own lunch and join staff members from SFA Gardens as they share the topics of this year’s Lunch Bunch meetings, which are geared toward garden-minded individuals.
 

From camper to director, Kirchman comes full circle with Junior Jacks theatre camp


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Caitlyn Kirchman was a shy second grader when she first came to Junior Jacks theatre camp on the Stephen F. Austin State University campus. It was there that she discovered a love for theatre and performing that helped her overcome her shyness and develop friendships that continue to this day.

SFA University Police Department earns international accreditation


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — The Stephen F. Austin State University Police Department recently received accreditation from the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators, the leading authority for campus public safety. Fewer than 100 agencies have earned this endorsement from IACLEA, which indicates compliance with national best-practice standards in the profession.

SFA a College of Distinction for second consecutive year: Recognitions added in two new categories


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – For the second year in a row, Stephen F. Austin State University has been named a College of Distinction for supporting undergraduate experiences grounded in a philosophy of well-rounded, individualized engagement, with graduates entering the workforce ready to adapt in an ever-changing society.

Already honored in 2020 for its high-impact approach to education, SFA has again been recognized for business, education, nursing, engineering and career development, with new honors for military support and equity and inclusion.
