SFA team accepted into prestigious Council on Undergraduate Research advocacy program


NACOGDOCHES, Texas –– Three Stephen F. Austin State University students and their faculty representative recently learned that they are among 63 teams in the nation to gain acceptance into the competitive Scholars Transforming Through Research advocacy program, presented by the Council on Undergraduate Research. This marks the first time SFA students have participated in the competitive application-based program.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas –– Three seniors from the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Stephen F. Austin State University gained valuable real-world experience through prestigious internships during the summer of 2024. 

SFA business students advance in Fastenal sales pitch competition


NACOGDOCHES, Texas –– Two students in Stephen F. Austin State University’s Rusche College of Business recently advanced to the second round of Fastenal’s National Sales Invitational by making compelling 90-second “elevator pitches” for a fictional company as part of a pre-announced case study.

Brylee Adams, marketing senior from Houston, and Oscar Sanchez, management senior from Jasper, earned $200 each from the Rusche College of Business and a spot in the regional second round competition to be held in late October online.

McLemore named director of SFA’s new Center for Professional and Continuing Education


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Brent McLemore, former director of Stephen F. Austin State University’s Center for Career and Professional Development, has been named director of the university’s new Center for Professional and Continuing Education, or PACE, which was created to leverage SFA’s knowledge resources to address the economic impact of the COVID-19 crisis in Deep East Texas.

Alumni, Nacogdoches community members invited to build SFA Homecoming bonfire foundation


NACOGDOCHES, Texas –– Stephen F. Austin State University’s Student Engagement office invites local alumni and Nacogdoches community members to assist in building the foundation of the annual SFA Homecoming bonfire from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, at the Intramural Fields.

The Homecoming bonfire will be lit the night of Oct. 25. More Homecoming details, including the full schedule and details on the concert headliner, will be released at a future date.

SFA students go abroad to participate in University Scholars Leadership Symposium in Thailand


NACOGDOCHES, Texas –– A three-student cohort represented Stephen F. Austin State University at the 12th University Scholars Leadership Symposium in August at the United Nations Conference Centre in Bangkok, Thailand. This marks the first time SFA students have participated in the symposium.

Facilitated through SFA’s Office of International Programs, Oscar Sanchez, Brianna Patterson and Mackenzie Damon joined fellow students from around the world in Thailand to gain tools and confidence to tackle some of the world’s most pressing issues.

SFA awarded $250,000 state grant to boost nursing student success


NACOGDOCHES, Texas –– Stephen F. Austin State University’s Office of the Provost has been awarded a $250,000 grant from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board that aims to enhance the academic performance, retention and graduation rates of nursing students.

SFA was selected out of 26 institutions across Texas to receive the competitive Student Success Acceleration Program 2.0 grant, “Accelerating Nursing Students' Success.” This program aligns with state and national efforts to address the critical shortage of registered nurses.

SFA’s CARRI to host Fall Faculty Showcase


NACOGDOCHES, Texas –– Stephen F. Austin State University’s Center for Applied Research and Rural Innovation will host the Fall Faculty Showcase to highlight faculty research projects funded by CARRI grants. The event will take place from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Oct. 15 in the Brundrett Conservation Education Building at the Pineywoods Native Plant Center.

Blount named inaugural recipient of SFA’s Sanner-Berry Business Professorship


NACOGDOCHES, Texas –– Stephen F. Austin State University’s Rusche College of Business recently awarded the inaugural Sanner-Berry Business Professorship to Dr. Justin Blount, professor in the Department of Business Communication and Legal Studies. The new professorship was created through an endowment by Christine “Chris” Sanner Berry and James “Jim” Berry, both 1985 graduates of SFA.
