New report shows SFA’s impact on Nacogdoches economy


NACOGDOCHES, Texas –– Stephen F. Austin State University accounts for more than $348 million of local economic activity and supports 4,819 local jobs, or 18% of total local employment, according to a 2025 economic report produced by the Center for Business and Economic Research in SFA’s Rusche College of Business.

Given Nacogdoches County’s total regional output of about $3.3 billion, SFA is responsible for $1 out of every $9.50 of economic activity in the county, the report indicates.

SFA launches alliance with community colleges to streamline transfer process


NACOGDOCHES, Texas –– Stephen F. Austin State University has launched the Lumberjack Transfer Alliance, a partnership with community colleges in East Texas that features guaranteed admission, scholarships and enhanced services to students. Angelina College signed on to become SFA’s first alliance partner recently in Lufkin.

Inaugural Texas Music Educators Association scholarship awarded to SFA music education student


NACOGDOCHES, Texas –– Faculty, staff and music education students from Stephen F. Austin State University’s Micky Elliott College of Fine Arts gathered in Cole Concert Hall last week for a surprise announcement honoring Olivia Smith, a junior Bachelor of Music student from Angleton, as the first recipient of the Texas Music Educators Association’s newly endowed Robert Floyd Scholarship for Music Education.

SFA mathematics alumna receives nation’s highest award for STEM education


NACOGDOCHES, Texas –– Voke (Gbemre) Ogueh, who graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University in 2006 with a master’s degree in mathematics, has earned the President’s Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching.

The White House and former President Joe Biden’s administration announced the most recent award recipients Jan. 13. She joins 336 award recipients in the United States and U.S. territories this year.

Distinguished donors to be celebrated at 34th annual SFA Gala


NACOGDOCHES, Texas –– Stephen F. Austin State University will recognize several prominent donors who have supported the institution during the 34th annual SFA Gala, slated for Saturday, Jan. 25, in the Baker Pattillo Student Center Grand Ballroom.

Hosted by the SFASU Foundation, the annual black-tie event honors generous benefactors to the university; showcases the impact of their giving on the students, faculty, staff and programs; and reiterates the need for the university’s endowment.

SFA to be featured on Amazon Prime Video’s 'The College Tour'


NACOGDOCHES, Texas –– Stephen F. Austin State University will be featured on an episode of the Amazon Prime television series "The College Tour," which highlights colleges and universities across the country and showcases campus life through stories told by current students.

Hosted by Alex Boylan, winner of CBS’s "The Amazing Race," each episode of "The College Tour" focuses on a single institution, providing an in-depth look at academics, campus culture and student experiences.

SFA faculty member research cited in presidential economic report


NACOGDOCHES, Texas –– Research published by Dr. Rebecca Davis, associate professor of economics in Stephen F. Austin State University’s Rusche College of Business, that summarizes the history of U.S. coal-fired plant retirements and offers future projections for the industry was cited in the 2025 Economic Report of the President.
