Courmier tabbed Critical Language Scholarship Spark award recipient


NACOGDOCHES, Texas –– Learning a new language opens a world of possibilities. Kate Courmier is about to take advantage of them.

A Mauriceville native and senior anthropology major in Stephen F. Austin State University’s Department of Anthropology, Geography and Sociology, Courmier recently was awarded the Critical Language Scholarship Spark award, which funds the cost of intensive language training.

SFA business students earn honors at international management society conference


NACOGDOCHES, Texas –– The Stephen F. Austin State University chapter of the Society for Advancement of Management received several awards at the SAM International Business Conference in March in Tallahassee, Florida. Students from SFA’s Nelson Rusche College of Business competed with students from around the world in categories ranging from business pitch and extemporaneous speech to a case competition at the conference.

Austin State University Sylvans timbersports team has once again claimed victory at the 66th annual Association of Southern Forestry Clubs Conclave, marking the Sylvans’ 19th overall Conclave title and extending their winning streak to seven consecutive Conclaves, tying the University of Arkansas at Monticello’s historic run from 1987 to 1993 as the longest ever.

SFA names Reese interim dean of Nelson Rusche College of Business


NACOGDOCHES, Texas –– Stephen F. Austin State University has appointed Dr. Jason Reese as the acting dean of the Nelson Rusche College of Business, effective Monday, March 10. This appointment follows the departure of Dr. Tim Bisping, who has accepted the position of dean of the College of Business at the University of Central Arkansas.

SFA’s School of Music launches Elliott String Quartet Fellowship


NACOGDOCHES, Texas –– Stephen F. Austin State University’s School of Music has launched the Elliott String Quartet Fellowship, a new graduate-level opportunity designed to attract top-tier string musicians and enhance the university’s orchestral program. The fellowship will begin in fall 2025 and provide competitive financial support to selected graduate students pursuing a Master of Music in performance or a performing artist certificate.
