Nacogdoches Naturally to present outdoor cooking and campfire program


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Join the Nacogdoches Naturally staff for a family outdoor cooking and campfire program from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7, at the Stephen F. Austin State University Pineywoods Native Plant Center, 2900 Raguet St.

Planned activities include outdoor cooking demonstrations with sample tasting and a campfire program featuring storytelling, singing and s'mores.

SFA Gala to honor outstanding donors


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Outstanding donors to Stephen F. Austin State University will be honored during the 24th annual SFA Gala on Saturday, Dec. 8, in the Grand Ballroom of the Baker Pattillo Student Center.

This year's Gala honorees include Shelby County Judge Rick Campbell; local businessmen Jim, Tom, John and Bob Kingham; and the late Cecil Richey Jr., an SFA alumnus and longtime East Texas educator.

Holiday classic 'Babes in Toyland' coming to SFA campus


As part of the SFA College of Fine Arts' Children's Performing Art Series, the American Family Theater, Inc. will give two performances of "Babes in Toyland" on Tuesday Dec. 11, one at 9:30 a.m. and one at 12:30 p.m. Both performances will be held in W.M.

New work featured in 'Christmas Around the World'


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music's A Cappella Choir, the Choral Union and Women's Chorus, along with the Orchestra of the Pines, will present "Christmas Around the World" at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7, in W.M. Turner Auditorium in the Griffith Fine Arts Building on the SFA campus.

The program will feature a new work by Christopher Rouse entitled "Karolju," according to Tim King, director of choral activities at SFA.

The Trombone Choir is under the direction of Deb Scott, associate professor of trombone, with Klein graduate student Justin Allen as graduate conductor.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Dr. Steven Bullard, dean of the Arthur Temple College of Forestry and Agriculture at Stephen F. Austin State University, has been elected president of the National Association of University Forest Resources Programs.

SFA to host War of 1812 conference


Nacogdoches, Texas - Stephen F. Austin State University will host a conference on the War of 1812 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, in the Wyatt Room of Ralph W. Steen Library.

The conference marks the 200th anniversary of the 32-month military conflict between the United States and the British Empire. Session topics are transnational perspectives, military conflicts, participants, causes, and the politics and aftermath of the war.

SFA Gala to honor outstanding faculty members


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Two faculty members in the College of Fine Arts will be honored during the 24th annual Stephen F. Austin State University Gala on Saturday, Dec. 8, in the Grand Ballroom of the Baker Pattillo Student Center.

The faculty achievement awards presented during the ceremony recognize innovation and excellence in teaching and research. Fred J. Allen is the recipient of the 2012 Faculty Achievement Award for Teaching, and Dr. Nathan Nabb has earned the Faculty Achievement Award for Research.

Nacogdoches Railroad Depot to host second annual Loblolly Railroad Model Train Display


The Loblolly Railroad Model Train Display will be at the Nacogdoches Railroad Depot from Friday, Nov. 30, to Friday, Dec. 14. The display includes a three-rail O gauge train and features two mainline loops of track, a figure 8 and a point-to-point trolley line.
