SFA composition professor named artist-in-residence

NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Hiking boots? Check. Water bottle? Check. Camera? Check. Composition station? Check. That last item makes SFA Professor of composition Stephen Lias' packing list for a trip to Rocky Mountain National Park unique, but then so will be his experience.

SFA accounting students place first in service learning project

SFA Gardens Les Reeves Lecture to feature gardens that make scents


The SFA Gardens will host its monthly Les Reeves Garden Lecture at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 15, in Room 110 of the Agriculture Building located on Wilson Drive on the Stephen F. Austin State University campus.

Dawn Stover, long-time SFA Gardens research associate, will present an intoxicating program, titled "The Scentual Garden," and will feature fragrant plants for today's garden.

SFA social work student receives Hogg Foundation scholarship


Stephen F. Austin State University student Sonya Baker of Jacksonville is one of 10 students at Texas graduate social work programs to receive $50,000 in special scholarship awards honoring the 70th anniversary of the Hogg Foundation for Mental Health.

Baker has 20 years of experience as a social worker at Rusk State Hospital and in nursing homes in Chandler and Jacksonville. She has a bachelor's degree in social work and wants to earn a master's degree so she can provide more advanced mental health services in a rural setting.

SFA's '12 x 12' offers original art at bargain prices


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Community members attending the "12 x 12" fund-raiser from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, July 10, at The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House will have the opportunity to purchase some great art at a bargain price, according to Christian Cutler, director of galleries at Stephen F. Austin State University.

SFA to screen 'Desdémona: A Love Story'


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art and Friends of the Visual Arts will present a one-night screening of "Desdémona: A Love Story" at 7:30 p.m. Friday, July 9, at The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House, 329 E. Main St. in downtown Nacogdoches as part of its monthly film series. Admission is free.
