NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS -African textiles, artifacts, sculptures and ceremonial articles spanning 500 years are included in "Fabric of African Culture," which the Stephen F.

Stephen F. Austin State University student Henriette Eidsnes of Tananger, Sola in Norway, has received the Merit Award Scholarship by the National Society of Collegiate Scholars.

Only 52 NSCS members are chosen nationwide to receive the $1,000 scholarship. "I believe this award is a compliment for the hard work I have applied to my college education," said Eidnes, a new member of the SFA chapter.

"Receiving this scholarship will be a tremendous help with the financial obligations I face as an international student."

NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The SFA Wind Ensemble will present a concert titled "Bits and Pieces" at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 21, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.

"This concert features the 55-member Wind Ensemble performing in groups of differing sizes," said Fred J. Allen, SFA director of bands and the ensemble's conductor. "Various combinations will be presented, from a piece written for nine instruments to one for the full band."

NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Stephen F. Austin State University College of Fine Arts and School of Music will present sound recording expert Mark Hornsby in a guest lecture, "Current Trend in Audio" from 2 to 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 19, in the Music Recital Hall, on the SFA campus. The lecture is free and open to the public.

Gov. Rick Perry

Newly reelected Texas Gov. Rick Perry will visit the Stephen F. Austin State University campus at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 12, at the Spirit Lounge in the Baker Pattillo Student Center.

Perry will speak, followed by a meet-and-greet session and a signing of his new book "Fed Up!"

The event is sponsored by the SFA chapter of the Young Conservatives of Texas. The event is free and open to the public

NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art has announced changes to its exhibition schedule for the next few months.

"A Forest Insect Alphabet" will open in Griffith Gallery at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 17, and run through Friday, Feb. 4. The exhibition of woodcuts and text included in a book recently printed and bound at SFA's LaNana Creek Press replaces "John Heliker: Drawings and Sketchbooks" that was originally scheduled to open in the gallery on Friday, Nov. 19. The Heliker show has been postponed until next year.

German poet Uwe Kolbe will present the final lecture in the Stephen F. Austin State University German Club speaker series, "Reflections on (Re)Unification, " commemorating 20 years of German political unity, at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 16, in the Vera Dugas Liberal Arts North building, Room 142.

Kolbe will present "The Insight of Dissenters: Remarks on Freedom and Real Socialism in Germany." He will discuss his first-hand experience as a dissident artist living in East Berlin, the capitol city of the former German Democratic Republic.
