SFA cancels Monday Classes - Update


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - All classes at Stephen F. Austin State University are canceled for Monday, Sept. 15, including the Early Childhood Lab and Charter School. All administrative offices also will be closed.

Essential personnel should report to work. If you have any questions about whether you should report, contact your immediate supervisor.

Mary Pack to head SFA nursing extension program in Rusk

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin State University's School of Nursing has chosen Mary Pack as coordinator of the School of Nursing extension program at Rusk State Hospital.

The program will give students in East Texas the opportunity to take nursing classes closer to home, allowing the university to educate a greater number of nurses.

SFA presents student-directed 'The Rising of the Moon'


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Theatre will present a student production of "The Rising of the Moon" at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19, and at 2 and 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 20, in the Downstage Theatre of the Griffith Fine Arts Building.

The one act play by Irish playwright Lady Augusta Gregory is an inspirational story about the Irish ideal of freedom, explained Nate Reid, Austin senior who is directing the play.

SFA offering children's Creative Art Saturday


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Area 6- to 12-year-olds may register for an art class offered by the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, at The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House, 329 E. Main Street in downtown Nacogdoches.

Texas Supreme Court Justice to speak at SFA

Texas Supreme Court Justice Dale Wainwright, who made history in 2002 as the first non-incumbent black justice to be elected to the court, will speak at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 8, in Cole Concert Hall at Stephen F. Austin State University.

SFA finance professor named interim vice president for development


Dr. John Lewis has been named interim vice president for development at Stephen F. Austin State University.

Lewis, a Nacogdoches native, earned a bachelor's degree in finance and a master's degree in management from Texas A&M University. He joined the SFA faculty in 1969 and completed a doctorate at Louisiana Tech University in 1975.

SFA to open annual faculty art exhibition


"Transportable Dialogue," a brass and steel sculpture by Lauren McAdams, SFA assistant professor of art, is one of the pieces included in the "SFA Faculty Exhibition" which will open with a 6 p.m. reception Friday, Sept. 12, at The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House, 329 E. Main St.

Piney Woods Camerata to perform at SFA


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Piney Woods Camerata, a conductor-less string ensemble led by the Stephen F. Austin State University string faculty, will present the third concert of its inaugural series at 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 14, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.

Collaborating with violinist Jennifer Dalmas, cellist Evgeni Raychev and violist Gene H. Moon will be "talented high school string players from around the region," said Raychev.
