A program titled "Lest We Forget: Preserving African American Culture and History" will be held Feb. 26-28 in both Nacogdoches and Lufkin in celebration of African American History Month.

Garden lecture to highlight plants for southern landscapes

The Stephen F. Austin State University Mast Arboretum Les Reeves Lecture Series will host Dr. Severn Doughty, executive secretary of the Louisiana Nursery and Landscape Association, at 7 p.m. Feb. 19 in Room 110 of the Agriculture Building on Wilson Drive.

SFA reports enrollment increase for spring semester


For the fourth consecutive reporting period, enrollment is on the rise at Stephen F. Austin State University. Student enrollment increased from 10,648 in spring 2008 to 11, 226, an increase of 5.4 percent.

State universities have kept a watchful eye on enrollment numbers during the past few semesters because funding from the state hangs in the balance, according to Dr. Baker Pattillo, SFA president. The spring semester is the final semester of the base-funding period, which determines university funding for the next two years.

SFA horticulture students receive awards in regional competition

New sign for SFA is first step toward honoring university's first president


New sign at "Birdwell Corner"

The new sign at the corner of North Street and East College is just the first in a series of improvements that will be made to the area of the Stephen F. Austin State University that is commonly referred to as "Birdwell Corner."

SFA gardening seminar to highlight tool maintenance


Dr. Craig Morton, SFA agricultural mechanics professor, will lead the upcoming SFA Mast Arboretum seminar "Garden Tool Maintenance for the Mechanically Challenged."

The SFA Mast Arboretum will host a garden seminar titled "Garden Tool Maintenance for the Mechanically Challenged" from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Feb. 21, at the Agricultural Mechanics Shop on College Street, next to the Military Science Building.

SFA Trombone Choir to present "All in the Family" concert

SFA to stage student-directed 'Defacing Michael Jackson'


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Theatre will present a student-directed production of Aurin Squire's "Defacing Michael Jackson" at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 13, and at 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, in the Downstage Theatre of the Griffith Fine Arts Building on the SFA campus.

SFA Bands to present joint concert


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Stephen F. Austin State University College of Fine Arts and School of Music will present the Wind Symphony and Symphonic Band in a joint concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10, in Cole Concert Hall, 2210 Alumni Dr., on the SFA campus.

Registration still open for SFA's children's choirs


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Registrations are still being accepted for the two children's choirs offered through the Stephen F. Austin State University Music Preparatory Division. The Live Wire Choir is open to children in kindergarten through second grade, and the Lyric Choir is open to those in third grade and above.
