NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Stephen F. Austin State University College of Fine Arts and School of Music will present the highly acclaimed Maia Quartet from the University of Iowa at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 14, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.

The Richard and Lucille DeWitt School of Nursing at Stephen F. Austin State University recently was awarded a $25,000 grant for its exceptional performance in producing initial licensure registered nurses.

Of the nearly 100 nursing programs in the state, three grants were awarded by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board to higher education institutions in the State of Texas. These schools met graduation and licensure rates of at least 85 percent and demonstrated a best practice in achieving these rates.

"Lobanillo," a 2009 digital print by Christopher Talbot, is one of the pieces included in the "SFA Faculty Exhibition," which will open with a 6 p.m. reception Friday, Sept. 11, at The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House, 329 E. Main St., Nacogdoches.

NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - An eclectic mix of artworks will be displayed in the "SFA Faculty Exhibition," which the Stephen F. Austin State University College of Fine Arts and School of Art will open at 6 p.m.

Soprano Twyla Robinson will open the SFA College of Fine Arts' 2009-2010 University Series with a program of Americana songs at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, in W.M. Turner Auditorium on the SFA campus.

Stephen F. Austin State University students take part in the 2008 "Back Lot Bash" following Freshman Convocation. This year's event is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 3.

The Nacogdoches County Chamber of Commerce and Stephen F. Austin State University will welcome the SFA Class of 2013 at the annual "Back Lot Bash" Thursday, Sept. 3, behind the William R. Johnson Coliseum.

NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art will again be offering art workshops for area 6- to 12-year-olds from 2 to 4 p.m. once a month at The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House in downtown Nacogdoches.

Registrations are now being accepted for this year's first Creative Art Saturday to be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 5. Participants will create paper art sculptures under the direction of SFA art faculty members Dr. Marsha Blount and Matthew Sutherlin. Assisting them will be SFA art and education majors.

Austin State University College of Fine Arts and School of Art will present a free one-night film screening of "Breaking the Maya Code" at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4, in the Ledbetter Gallery of The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House, 329 E. Main St. in downtown Nacogdoches.

"Breaking the Maya Code" traces the 200-year struggle to decipher the ancient Maya hieroglyphic script and thereby unlock the secrets of one of mankind's greatest civilizations, explained Christian Cutler, director of the SFA galleries.

Garry Krinsky will open the 2009-2010 season of the Stephen F. Austin State University Chidren's Performing Arts Series with his "Toying with Science" show. Season and single event tickets are now on sale.
