NACOGDOCHES, Texas — The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Human Sciences’ six-week community nutrition program, Cooking Matters, completed its eighth year at a Nacogdoches food pantry’s new resource center earlier this month.
Partnering with the East Texas Food Bank and Nacogdoches HOPE Food Pantry, students in SFA’s community nutrition course provided nutrition education and basic cooking lessons to participants in the community from Oct. 2 through Nov. 6.

Featuring the official SFA tartan along with the SFA centennial logo, the items are available exclusively online through SFA’s merchandising program website.
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Three concert bands at Stephen F. Austin State University will present a variety of works when the students perform at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 16, in Turner Auditorium, Griffith Fine Arts Building, on the SFA campus.
The Wind Ensemble, directed by Dr. Tamey Anglley, director of bands at SFA; the Wind Symphony, directed by Dr. Dan Haddad, associate director of bands; and the Symphonic Band, directed by Dr. Chris Kaatz, assistant director of bands, will each perform works reflecting different themes.
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Symphony Orchestra at Stephen F. Austin State University recently presented a concert for approximately 450 Nacogdoches ISD second grade students in an educational outreach initiative and collaborative partnership between the school district and SFA School of Music and its Music Preparatory Division.
“The primary goal of the concert was to introduce young children to classical music and provide them with an exhilarating live performance experience in the newly renovated Turner Auditorium at SFA,” said Alba Madrid, director of Music Prep.

“Most of our online students are nontraditional,” said Megan Weatherly, executive director of the Lumberjack Learning Commons at SFA. “From caregivers to full-time workers to students who are constantly on the move, online programs provide them the flexibility and access to reach their educational goals.”
NACOGDOCHES, Texas — For years, the lack of a comprehensive local flora manual for East Texas has been an impediment for Dr. James Van Kley’s ongoing research as a professor of biology at Stephen F. Austin State University. The problem is nearing its end as Part 1 of the book “Herbaceous Plants of the Pineywoods of East Texas and Louisiana” was published in October with text written by Van Kley and illustrations created by Bruce Lyndon Cunningham, a Nacogdoches-based illustrator.
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Voice students in the School of Music at Stephen F. Austin State University will present “Opera Scenes of Fantasy and Frivolity” at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 16, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Trombone Choir at Stephen F. Austin State University will present a diverse program ranging from a fanfare for brass instruments to works of jazz when students perform at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 14, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.
Dr. Deb Scott, professor of trombone in the SFA School of Music, will conduct the Trombone choir in its performance of “Fanfare for the Vienna Philharmonic” by Richard Strauss and arranged by Dr. Bruce D. Tychinski, professor of trombone at the University of Delaware.
