SFA voice students to perform selected scenes from famous operas


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Voice students in the School of Music at Stephen F. Austin State University will present “Opera Scenes of Fantasy and Frivolity” at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 16, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.

SFA students named finalists in Sport Marketing Association competition


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — A team of three sports business students in Stephen F. Austin State University’s Rusche College of Business earned a spot in the final four of the Sport Marketing Association’s 2023 Case Study Competition in October at the SMA annual conference in Tampa Bay, Florida.

Scott, Vacca to conduct SFA Trombone Choir concert


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Trombone Choir at Stephen F. Austin State University will present a diverse program ranging from a fanfare for brass instruments to works of jazz when students perform at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 14, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.
 
Dr. Deb Scott, professor of trombone in the SFA School of Music, will conduct the Trombone choir in its performance of “Fanfare for the Vienna Philharmonic” by Richard Strauss and arranged by Dr. Bruce D. Tychinski, professor of trombone at the University of Delaware.

SFA alumni make their mark in Texas Rangers’ front office for World Series run


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Four Stephen F. Austin State University alumni from the Rusche College of Business sports business program are supporting the Texas Rangers during the team’s World Series run as part of the organization’s business development and ticketing operations staff.

Bryana Novegil ’21 & ’23, Aaron Rangel ’20, Isaiah Schreiber ’20 and Isaiah Yates ’18 hope to see their team take home its first World Series title in its 62-year history.

SFA’s Swingin’ Axes, Aces to perform blend of jazz standards


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The popular jazz bands at Stephen F. Austin State University will perform a mixture of classic and contemporary jazz standards when the student ensembles take the stage in Turner Auditorium Friday night, Nov. 10, on the campus of Stephen F. Austin State University.
 
“The SFA jazz ensembles are so excited to perform in the newly renovated Turner Auditorium,” said Dr. JD Salas, director of the Swingin’ Axes jazz band.

To support ongoing research and teaching in the Department of Earth Sciences and Geologic Resources, Petroleum Experts Limited (Petex) donated the MOVE suite of software valued at $2,764,444.18 to the department.

SFA’s Stone Fort Wind Quintet faculty ensemble to perform


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Stone Fort Wind Quintet at Stephen F. Austin State University will perform works by Endre Szervánszky, Marc Mellits and Arne Running when the faculty ensemble presents a recital at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 7, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.
 
The quintet is comprised of Dr. Christina Guenther, flute; Dr. Christopher Ayer, clarinet; Dr. Cody Hunter, bassoon; Dr. Jenna Sehmann, oboe; and Dr. Andrea Denis, horn.
 

Dalmas-Raychev: Hachidori Duo to perform at SFA


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Hachidori Duo, featuring the husband-wife team of Dr. Evgeni Raychev, cello, and Dr. Jennifer Dalmas, violin, will present the program “Musical Gems for Violin and Cello Duo” at 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 5, in Cole Concert Hall on the campus of Stephen F. Austin State University.
 
Raychev and Dalmas are faculty members in the SFA School of Music and will perform works by J. J. F. Dotzauer, Erwin Schulhoff and Peteris Vasks, among other composers.
 

SFA names new dean of research and graduate studies


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University has named Dr. Forrest Lane, an educator with nearly 20 years in a variety of academic and administrative positions within higher education, dean of the Office of Research and Graduate Studies.
