NACOGDOCHES, Texas — To celebrate Stephen F. Austin State University’s 100 years of higher education, the Division of University Marketing Communications held the SFA centennial design contest to involve all Lumberjacks in celebrating the historic milestone.

UMC asked for artists of all ages to submit an original design using a coloring page of the centennial logo. Winning designs were turned into centennial-themed merchandise and are now available for purchase. 

NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS – Before a packed second-floor lobby in the newly renovated Griffith Fine Arts Building Sunday afternoon, a commemorative ribbon was cut to officially open and dedicate the expanded fine arts complex on the Stephen F. Austin State University campus.
 

NACOGDOCHES, Texas –The Swingin’ Axes and Swingin’ Aces jazz bands at Stephen F. Austin State University will present their fall “Jazz at the Brewery” fundraiser from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 29, at Fredonia Brewery in downtown Nacogdoches.
 
The concert continues the jazz bands’ tradition of taking our performance out into the community, according to Dr. JD Salas, director of the Swingin’ Axes jazz ensemble.

Austin State University is celebrating the release of fall 2023 enrollment data that shows the university registered its largest first-time undergraduate class in five years.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas — The Piney Woods Entrepreneurship Network will hold its first meet-up for community members, small business owners, entrepreneurs and Stephen F. Austin State University students from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Sept. 27 at the Fredonia Brewery in Nacogdoches.

Hosted by SFA’s Arnold Center for Entrepreneurship in the Nelson Rusche College of Business, this network brings together East Texans in an informal setting to learn from each other and promote new venture creation and growth inside and outside SFA.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s four-day Centennial Celebration weekend will be filled with exciting events running Friday, Sept. 15, through Monday, Sept. 18.

Kicking off the celebration is the SFA Alumni Awards, opening with a cocktail reception at 6 p.m. and the dinner and program at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 15, at The Fredonia Hotel in Nacogdoches. Honorees include two former SFA presidents, Dr. William R. Johnson and the late Dr. Baker Pattillo.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas — A limited number of centennial volumes of Stephen F. Austin State University’s Stone Fort yearbook, celebrating a century of Lumberjack history and tradition, are available this fall for purchase by alumni, supporters and community members while supplies last.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas –– “Yes, We Deliver,” a play written by Dr. Kenneth Untiedt, professor in the Department of English and Creative Writing at Stephen F. Austin State University, will open Friday, Sept. 15, at the Lamp-Lite Theatre. 

The showings will take place at 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays Sept 15-16 and 22-23. Sunday matinees begin at 2 p.m. Sept. 17 and 24. 

NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s League of United Latin American Citizens was honored with the National Membership Award and the title of the Young Women of the Year for the state of Texas while attending the 2023 LULAC National Convention and Exposition from Aug. 1-5 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.  

The LULAC National Convention draws approximately 15,000 participants each year, including leaders in government, business and the Latino community. The nationwide organization was founded to advance opportunities for all Hispanic nationality groups.
