SFA art students study abroad in Italy


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Stephen F. Austin State University students in the School of Art traveled to Florence, Siena, Arezzo and Rome, Italy, to study art first hand and develop the School of Art’s ongoing exchange program with Libera Accademia di Belle Arti (LABA), an art school in Florence.
 

Grand opening planned for SFA’s Griffith Fine Arts Building


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The start of a new academic year at Stephen F. Austin State University is only a few short days away. When students arrive on campus to begin classes Aug. 28, they’ll have a year of special memories ahead of them as SFA celebrates its 100th year.
 
Among the many reasons for celebration is the opening of the newly renovated and expanded Griffith Fine Arts Building, which will be open when classes begin.

SFA’s Friday Night Film Series to screen ‘The History of Time Travel’


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art and the Friends of the Visual Arts will present a free, one-night screening of “The History of Time Travel,” a 2014 fictional documentary written and directed by Ricky Kennedy. The screening is at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 1, in The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House.
 

Midgley named SFA Makerspace’s inaugural Faculty Fellow


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Herbert Midgley, a lecturer in Stephen F. Austin State University’s School of Music, was recently named the inaugural 2023-24 Faculty Fellow for the SFA Makerspace, a new unit housed within the Lumberjack Learning Commons that fosters a collaborative environment with access to technologies to learn, create and explore.

Lumberjacks, public invited to SFA’s 4-day September celebration honoring 100th anniversary


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — In an event that happens once in a lifetime, Stephen F. Austin State University is celebrating its 100th anniversary with a full slate of months-long initiatives that will culminate in a weekend of celebrations in September.

SFA Gardens to host fruit research field day


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s SFA Gardens will host a fruit research field day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 29 featuring kiwifruit, muscadine grapes, blueberries, figs, feijoas and other fruits.

Speakers will include Dr. David Creech, director of SFA Gardens; and Dr. Tim Hartmann and Dr. Justin Scheiner, both faculty members in Texas A&M University’s Department of Horticultural Sciences.

Retired horticulture agent, consultant and educator to be SFA Gardens’ September lecture series speaker


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s SFA Gardens will host the monthly Theresa and Les Reeves Lecture Series at 7 p.m. Sept. 14 in the Brundrett Conservation Education Building at the Pineywoods Native Plant Center.

Keith Hansen, a retired extension horticulture agent for Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, will present "I Wish I Never Planted That (There), and Other Thoughts after Gardening 30 Years in Tyler.”
