SFA to recognize outstanding alumni at awards banquet, Sept. 23


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — The Stephen F. Austin State University Alumni Association will honor eight alumni during its awards banquet beginning at 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23, at The Fredonia Hotel in Nacogdoches.

The SFA Alumni Awards honor individuals who have made outstanding contributions to their professions and the community and who advance the goals and values of SFA.

SFA’s Children’s Performing Arts Series returns to SFA


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Children’s Performing Arts Series returns to the Stephen F. Austin State University campus in the 2022-23 academic year with four fun shows designed to entertain and educate East Texas youngsters.

SFA’s Dr. Sarah Straub lands grant to create academy for Nacogdoches girls


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s Dr. Sarah Straub, an associate professor in the James I. Perkins College of Education’s Department of Education Studies, was recently awarded a $58,000 grant through the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department that will fund a science academy for up to 100 girls in the Nacogdoches Independent School District.

SFA Alumni Association hosting splash event geared toward families


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — The Stephen F. Austin State University Alumni Association is hosting the Lumberjack Glow Party and Dive-In Movie event at Splash Kingdom Timber Falls in Nacogdoches from 7 to 10 p.m. Sept. 10.

The event invites Lumberjacks and their families in Nacogdoches County to engage with the association and meet up with fellow SFA enthusiasts.

SFA student regent Paige Vadnais looks forward to serving the Lumberjack family


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Ask Paige Vadnais, the new student regent for Stephen F. Austin State University’s Board of Regents, to list the things in life most important to her, and she will quickly respond, “My family and my dogs, whom I also consider family.”

They factored greatly in her decision to attend SFA. Vadnais’ sister, Skyler ’19, earned a bachelor’s degree in education from the university and provided “a little bit of home away from home” when Vadnais left Forney for Nacogdoches. 

SFA to host second-annual Giving Day Sept. 15


NACOGDOCHES, Texas –– Lumberjacks near and far as well as friends of Stephen F. Austin State University are encouraged to participate in the university’s second-annual Giving Day scheduled for Sept. 15. 

The fundraising event falls three days before the university’s 99th anniversary — SFA welcomed its inaugural class of students on Sept. 18, 1923. Therefore, the theme #LogYourLegacy encourages Lumberjacks to celebrate that nearly century-long legacy by giving in support of the university’s future.

SFA’s Griffith Fine Arts Building construction progressing as planned


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Progress continues on the much-anticipated renovation and expansion of the Griffith Fine Arts Building on the Stephen F. Austin State University campus with an estimated mid-2023 completion date just under a year away.

University and construction officials remain optimistic that current deadlines can be met, and that the building will be ready for occupancy prior to the start of the 2023-24 academic year, as planned.

Summer residencies translate to improved artistry


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – This past summer took Stephen F. Austin State University art professors Lauren Selden and Shaun Roberts to separate residencies where their adventures were as different as their art. Yet their time spent studying, creating and exploring different countries and regions resulted in transformative experiences that will make them better artists and teachers.
