Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 is a federal law that prohibits sex discrimination in education. It reads:
"No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance."

Sex discrimination includes sexual harassment and sexual assault and it is the policy of Stephen F. Austin State University (SFA), in accordance with federal and state law, to prohibit unlawful discrimination as outlined in Title IX Policy (2.13) and the Nondiscrimination Policy (2.11) which outline the university's commitment and details the procedures used to investigate complaints.

SFA's Department of Public Safety can assist you in filing criminal charges in addition to policy violations.

In addition to reporting a policy violation to one of the Title IX Coordinators, you may also file criminal complaints for sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking, to the appropriate law enforcement agency that would have jurisdiction based on where the violation occurred. The SFA Department of Public Safety has jurisdiction over crimes that occur on campus and no matter the location of the incident, SFA University Police can assist in filing a report with the appropriate law enforcement agency.
