NACOGDOCHES, TX - The Deep East Texas P-16 Council is encouraging communities, businesses and schools in Nacogdoches and Angelina counties to join the state of Texas in celebrating GenTX Day by wearing a college T-shirt on Friday, May 2. GenTX Day is part of Generation TX, a statewide initiative supported by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board focused on building a college-going, career-ready culture across the state.
Spring recitals to feature SFA Music Preparatory Division students
NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Students in the Music Preparatory Division of the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music will present their spring recitals beginning April 29 and continuing through May 18.
"The students have worked hard this semester in order to bring their gift of music to parents, families and friends," said Pat Barnett, division director.

SFA chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma to honor distinguished alumna
NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin State University alumna Lou Ann Richardson, an executive vice president and regional head of U.S. sales for Wells Fargo Global Financial Institutions, will be recognized as the 2014 Beta Gamma Sigma Chapter Honoree during an on-campus ceremony Wednesday, April 23.
SFA Beef Center to hold family-friendly Farm and Forestry Day
NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Join the SFA Beef Center and Stephen F. Austin State University's Nacogdoches Naturally Family Outdoor Adventure Program for "Farm and Forestry Day" from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 26, at the Walter C. Todd Agricultural Research Center located 5.5 miles north of Nacogdoches on State Highway 259.
The free barnyard event is a chance for children and their families to be exposed to the farm animals at the SFA Beef Center and gain awareness of the many educational experiences available from SFA's Arthur Temple College of Forestry and Agriculture.
SFA Regents Lecture set for April 22
NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Dr. Harry Downing, professor and chair of the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Stephen F. Austin State University, will present "Physics is Phundamental" at the upcoming Regents Lecture.
Downing, the 2013-14 Regents Professor, will deliver the address at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 22, in the Miller Science Building Lecture Hall, Room 334, on the SFA campus. Refreshments will be served, and there is no admission charge.
SFA faculty recital to feature original compositions
NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin State University College of Fine Arts and School of Music will present Dr. Stephen Lias, Dr. Nathan Nabb and Dr. James Pitts performing "Outside In - Inside Out," a faculty recital, at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, April 27, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.
The recital will be comprised of three large works, two of which are world premieres, composed by Lias, who is professor of composition at SFA. Staff pianist Pitts will accompany on two of the program pieces.
SFA School of Theatre to present student-directed 'No Exit'
NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Theatre will present the student-directed one-act play "No Exit" at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 25, and at 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 26, in the Downstage Theatre on the SFA campus.
Written by Jean-Paul Sartre, "No Exit" will be directed by Weatherford senior theatre major Austin Holt. It is the story of three people - Garcin, Estelle and Inez - who are "stuck in hell with each other," Holt said.
SFA Board of Regents approves STEM scholarships worth $200,000
NACOGDOCHES, Texas - New annual scholarships totaling $200,000 for Stephen F. Austin State University students preparing for careers in the STEM disciplines (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) were approved by the Board of Regents Tuesday.
