SFA Board of Regents approves faculty, staff changes


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin State University Board of Regents approved faculty and staff changes during its quarterly meeting Tuesday.

SFA Bands' 'Concert in the Park' planned for April 27


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin State University College of Fine Arts and School of Music will present the SFA Bands performing the annual "Concert in the Park" at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 27, on the lawn in front of the Wright Music Building on the SFA campus.

All SFA concert bands will perform, according to Fred J. Allen, director of bands. Opening the concert will be the University Band under the direction of graduate assistant Stephen Morman of Athens who will conduct "Spirals of Light" by Sean O'Loughlin.

SFA's Orchestra of the Pines to present 'Broadway, Movies and Music III'


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin State University will present the university's flagship orchestral ensemble, Orchestra of the Pines, performing its final concert of the semester at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 26, in W.M. Turner Auditorium on the SFA campus.

"Broadway, Movies and Music III" will feature famous movie soundtracks and Broadway tunes, according to Dr. Gene H. Moon, director of orchestras at SFA.

SFA College of Fine Arts Dean's Awards recognize recipients' potential


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Stephen F. Austin State University College of Fine Arts will recognize four students during the presentation of the annual Dean's Awards at 5:30 p.m. Friday, April 25, at The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House in downtown Nacogdoches.

Trumpet great Bergeron to perform with SFA's Swingin' Axes


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin State University College of Fine Arts and School of Music will present acclaimed jazz great Wayne Bergeron performing with SFA's Swingin' Axes jazz band at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 24, in W.M. Turner Auditorium.

The performance is a feature of the College of Fine Arts' 2013-2014 University Series, "Live Out Loud."

Stone Fort Wind Quintet to perform program of challenging music


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stone Fort Wind Quintet at Stephen F. Austin State University will present music never before performed by the School of Music faculty ensemble in a recital at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.

The quintet includes Christina Guenther-Scott, flute; John W. Goodall, oboe; Christopher Ayer, clarinet; Staci Spring, bassoon; and Charles Gavin, horn.

The concert will feature "a great variety of music that is challenging and enjoyable to perform," said Gavin, professor of horn and chamber music at SFA.

NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The SFA Friends of Music will accept reservations through noon Tuesday, April 15, for Extravaganza 27, the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music's annual gala banquet. The event is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 22, in the Grand Ballroom of SFA's Baker Pattillo Student Center.

SFA's Symphonic, University bands to present spring concert


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin State University College of Fine Arts and School of Music will present the annual spring concert of SFA's Symphonic Band and University Band at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, in W.M. Turner Auditorium on the SFA campus.

SFA, TJR develop fine arts partnership


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The results of a newly formed partnership between the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Theatre and the Thomas J. Rusk Academy of Fine Arts will be showcased in a Fine Arts Gala at 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, in the movie theatre in the Baker Pattillo Student Center on the SFA campus.
