SFA to present Teaching Excellence Awards


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Seven Stephen F. Austin State University faculty members will be honored for their teaching abilities at the annual Teaching Excellence Convocation beginning at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, in Regents' Suites A and B of the Baker Pattillo Student Center.

SFA Sylvans win back-to-back forestry conclave championships


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - A team of forestry students from the Arthur Temple College of Forestry and Agriculture at Stephen F. Austin State University captured the championship trophy for the second straight year at the 57th annual Southern Forestry Conclave at Claytor Lake State Park in Virginia.

SFA opens Center for Digital Scholarship in Steen Library


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin State University's Ralph W. Steen Library has opened the Center for Digital Scholarship, which will assist with digital research projects, education and learning programs, scientific data, and digital humanities.

Located on the second floor of Steen Library, the CDS is a service center that offers support and assistance to faculty members, students and community members in the development and creation of digital information.

SFA's William W. Gibson Entomarium to host open house, dedication ceremony


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin State University Department of Biology will host the official opening of the William W. Gibson Entomarium at 1 p.m. Monday, April 14, in the Miller Science Building, Room 209.

Mix'n Matches to perform concert at SFA


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin State University College of Fine Arts and School of Music will present the Mix'n Matches jazz trio in a performance at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 10, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.

Mix'n Matches is the professional local group comprised of SFA School of Music faculty members Larry Greer on guitar, Brad Meyer on drums and J.D. Salas on bass. Special guest for this performance will be Eric Chin on keyboards.

Nationally acclaimed artist Witkin to serve as Texas National juror


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Jerome Witkin, considered one of America's most important living figurative artists, will serve as juror for the 20th anniversary of Texas National, Stephen F. Austin State University's annual art competition and exhibition.

"We are very honored to have a juror of such stature as Mr. Witkin for the 20th anniversary of the Texas National," said John Handley, director of SFA galleries. "The art critic Kenneth Baker has said of Mr. Witkin that his only peer was the British painter Lucian Freud. That's quite a compliment."

Tickets still available for Thursday's SFJAZZ Collective performance


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Tickets are still available for the award-winning SFJAZZ Collective's performance at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 3, in W.M. Turner Auditorium on the campus of Stephen F. Austin State University.

SFA Trombone Choir to celebrate International Trombone Week


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin State University College of Fine Arts and School of Music will present the SFA Trombone Choir in a recital at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 9, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.

"The Trombone Choir will perform a festive concert with a selection of popular and jazz songs that will commemorate International Trombone Week," said Dr. Deb Scott, associate professor of trombone at SFA and the director of the Trombone Choir.

SFA Wind Ensemble to present 'Celebrations'


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin State University College of Fine Arts and School of Music will present a performance of the SFA Wind Ensemble at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 8, in W.M. Turner Auditorium on the SFA campus.

"Celebrations," a concert of band music, will feature guest conductor Kevin "Kit" Thompson, University of Macau, and the world premiere of "Kennecott" by Dr. Stephen Lias, SFA professor of composition.

Thompson will conduct the band in Gordon Jacob's "Old Wine in New Bottles."

SFA and El Centro College sign articulation agreement


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - El Centro College of the Dallas County Community College District and the School of Human Sciences at Stephen F. Austin State University have agreed to a comprehensive articulation agreement between the institutions' hospitality programs.

Under the new collaborative agreement, students will be able to transfer up to 66 total credit hours to SFA, including 30 hours from El Centro's food and hospitality program. They will then be able to transfer and complete remaining requirements for the Bachelor of Science in hospitality administration from SFA.
