Versatile percussionist Harnsberger to present guest recital at SFA


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin State University College of Fine Arts and School of Music will present Dr. Andy Harnsberger in a guest percussion recital at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 22, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.

SFA's collaborative 'Pen and Pigment' exhibition to open March 21


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - A collaborative project between Stephen F. Austin State University student writers and artists will culminate in the annual "Pen & Pigment" exhibition, which opens at 5:30 p.m. Friday, March 21, in Griffith Gallery in the Griffith Fine Arts Building.

Raychev recital to feature works of composer Marcello


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Dr. Evgeni Raychev, cellist and Stephen F. Austin State University music faculty member, will present "MarCello" at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 20, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus as part of the Cole Performing Arts Series.

The faculty recital will also feature Dr. Gene Moon, director of orchestras at SFA, and Martha De Luna, graduate student in the SFA School of Music.

Acclaimed pianist Baham to perform at SFA


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin State University College of Fine Arts and School of Music will present guest pianist Kerry Baham in a recital at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 18, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.

Titled "The Most Famous Musical Family Tree," the program will feature the work of composers who represent a legacy of teachers/pupils from Franz Joseph Haydn to Ludwig van Beethoven, to Carl Czerny to Franz Liszt, according to Andrew Parr, professor of piano at SFA.

SFA Spring Plant Sale and Earth Day Celebration set for April 5


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin State University Gardens will host the annual Garden Gala Day Spring Plant Sale and Earth Day Celebration from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 5, at the Pineywoods Native Plant Center, 2900 Raguet St., in historic Nacogdoches.

SFA Gardens Lecture Series to feature plant sale preview


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - SFA Gardens at Stephen F. Austin State University will host the monthly Theresa and Les Reeves Lecture Series at 7 p.m. Thursday, March. 13, in the new Ina Brundrett Conservation Education Building at the Pineywoods Native Plant Center, 2900 Raguet St. in Nacogdoches.

SFA Gardens horticulturists Dave Creech, Dawn Stover and Greg Grant will present a "A Plant Preview of the Upcoming Garden Gala Plant Sale." Their combined program will present information and images of many of the new, popular and more unusual plants available at the upcoming sale.

NOBLE Banquet to honor local high school students


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The 23rd annual Nacogdoches County's Opportunity for Better Learning Experience banquet will be held at 6:30 p.m. Monday, March 17, in the Grand Ballroom of the Baker Pattillo Student Center at Stephen F. Austin State University.

More than 250 students were invited to attend this year's banquet, which will honor Nacogdoches County high school seniors who chose a more rigorous recommended or distinguished program of study in their high school courses and completed a service project.

Concerto/aria winners to perform with Orchestra of the Pines


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin State University College of Fine Arts and School of Music will present the Orchestra of the Pines performing with the 2014 SFA Concerto/Aria winners in a concert at 7:30 p.m. Monday, March 3, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.

"Taking Center Stage" will feature SFA music students Cairee Mayfield, Carly Hood, Kyle Glavanovits, Lindsay Lymer and Susanna Campbell.

Winners of SFA's biennial jewelry and metalwork exhibition announced


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - A professor at Syracuse University earned first place for her entry in the "Refined VIII: Maker's Choice" exhibition on display through March 29 in the Reavley Gallery of The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House in downtown Nacogdoches.

"Refined" is a biennial exhibition of jewelry and metalwork hosted by the art metals program in the School of Art at SFA since 1998, according to John Handley, director of art galleries at SFA.
