SFA music faculty to be featured in benefit recital


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Faculty members of the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music will be the featured performers during the annual Pi Kappa Lambda Recital at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.

"This concert showcases our diverse faculty and their talent," said Deborah Dalton, SFA associate professor of voice and president of the local chapter of Pi Kappa Lambda, the national music honor society.

SFA football game and related activities postponed


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin State University's season-opener football game against Southwestern Oklahoma has been postponed until Friday due to anticipated inclement weather related to Hurricane Isaac.

All other game-day activities, including Freshman Tailgate and Jack Camp reunion, Veterans Tailgate, Alumni Corner tailgate, and Jacks Charge, have been moved to Friday at the same scheduled times. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Homer Bryce Stadium.

SFA to open annual faculty art exhibition


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - An eclectic mix of artworks will be displayed in the "SFA Faculty Exhibition," which the Stephen F. Austin State University College of Fine Arts and School of Art will open at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 6, in the Ledbetter Gallery of The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House in downtown Nacogdoches.

SFA to screen film on puppeteer behind Elmo


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - As part of its monthly independent film series, the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art and Friends of the Visual Arts will present a free, one-night screening of "Being Elmo: A Puppeteer's Journey" at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 7, at The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House.

The 80-minute documentary focuses on Kevin Clash, the creator of Elmo, the beloved red puppet recognized around the world. The film includes rare archival footage and is narrated by Whoopie Goldberg.
