SFA to screen 'Digital Nation'


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - As a part of its monthly independent film series, the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art and Friends of the Visual Arts will present a free, one-night screening of "Digital Nation: Life on the Virtual Frontier" at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 4, at The Cole Art Center @ the Old Opera House, 329 E. Main St. in downtown Nacogdoches.

SFA Board of Regents approves faculty appointments, staff changes


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin State University Board of Regents approved new faculty and staff appointments, changes of status and retirements at its regular meeting Tuesday.

New faculty appointments included: Kyle Ainsworth, special collections librarian II; Gregory Bailey, librarian I; Darrell Fry, assistant professor of chemistry; and Wendi Pollock, assistant professor of government.

SFA faculty recital features songs of Robert Schumann

NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Baritone David Howard and pianist Andrew Parr, both faculty members of the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music, will present "Songs of Robert Schumann" at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 31, in Cole Concert Hall.

SFA Wind Ensemble presents 'Welcome Home' concert


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Following a two-day tour of high schools in Houston and East Texas, the SFA Wind Ensemble will present its "Welcome Home" concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 1, in W.M. Turner Auditorium on the SFA campus.

"Going on tour gives us a chance to interact with high school students and their teachers," said Fred J. Allen, SFA director of bands and of the Wind Ensemble. "We want to perform for our Nacogdoches audience the pieces we are playing on tour."

SFA Board of Regents approves campus closures, staff furloughs to help meet budget reduction


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin State University will be closed and eligible employees furloughed for four days in the coming months to help meet an immediate required state budget reduction of more than $1 million. The Board of Regents on Tuesday approved closing the university April 21-22, May 27 and July 1.

Staff members classified as "exempt" will be allowed to expend accrued vacation time for the required furlough days or take leave without pay. "Non-exempt" staff members may choose to expend accrued vacation and/or compensatory time or take leave without pay.

SFA Repertory Dance Company to perform


The Stephen F. Austin State University Repertory Dance Company will perform in concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 4, and Saturday, Feb. 5, at 3 and 7:30 p.m. in W.M. Turner Auditorium on the SFA campus.

The concert features works by dance program faculty and guest artists. Dance majors Kathleen Higgins and Marka Wood also have been invited to have their senior choreographic projects produced.

Professor Stan Bobo choreographed "Bailero," a lyrical solo that premiered in 1994 and has been restaged for second-year company member Erika Marschke.

SFA to present sports comedy, 'The Complete World of Sports (abridged)'


The Reduced Shakespeare Company, known world-wide for its comedic stage shows, will present "The Complete World of Sports (abridged)" at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 28, in W.M.

SFA Gardens Seminar Focuses on Garden Soils
