First investment in SFA by UT Board of Regents will provide no-cost tuition for more than one thousand additional students


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Immediately upon legislative approval of its affiliation with The University of Texas System, Stephen F. Austin State University will receive at least $1 million per year in need-based financial aid from the UT System Board of Regents through the Regents’ Promise Plus endowment. This investment will provide an allocation that will allow an additional 1,200 students to attend SFA tuition free next fall through the university’s Purple Promise Guarantee Program.
 

SFA regents select Westbrook for 10th president, announce mid-year salary increase for university employees


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — During its two-day quarterly meeting, the Stephen F. Austin State University Board of Regents selected Dr. Steve Westbrook to serve as 10th president until his retirement in May. The board also announced a fiscal year 2023 mid-year salary increase for university employees.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas — During its two-day quarterly meeting, the Stephen F. Austin State University Board of Regents recognized student, faculty and staff achievements, as well as approved faculty and staff appointments.

Donors honored at 32nd SFA Gala


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University honored prominent donors who have supported the school and the surrounding community during the 32nd annual SFA Gala held Saturday in the Baker Pattillo Student Center Grand Ballroom.
 
This year’s honorees, inducted into the university’s three highest tiers of giving, were David and Charlotte Sanderson, Sammie and Beverly Smith, Paul and Dixie Kellerhals, Hank and Suzy Crouse, and the Micky Elliott Family Foundation. 
 

SFA launches centennial celebration


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — From being administered through a small shack on Washington Square to educating nearly 12,000 students a year on its beautiful, 421-acre main campus, Stephen F. Austin State University has come a long way in 100 years. Students, faculty, staff, alumni and the Nacogdoches community have big plans to mark the university’s first century throughout 2023.

“SFA’s history is filled with incredible people and events,” said Dr. Steve Westbrook, SFA’s interim president. “Our campus and community have been looking forward to celebrating them.”

Jim and Margaret Perkins recognized with the 2023 Texas Higher Education Distinguished Service Award


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Presidents, chancellors and the leaders of more than 100 Texas higher education institutions honored Jim and Margaret Perkins from East Texas by naming them recipients of this year’s Texas Higher Education Distinguished Service Award during a ceremony held in Austin this week. 

SFA’s second Montgomery Professorship event rescheduled for March 2


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Originally scheduled for Feb. 21, humane education advocate Zoe Weil’s presentation “The World Becomes What We Teach: A Solutionary Approach to Humane Education” will now take place March 2 on Zoom. Weil is co-founder and president of the Institute for Humane Education.

SFA Gardens lecture series to feature Appleby farmers Cindy and Bryan Pruett


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s SFA Gardens will host the monthly Theresa and Les Reeves Lecture Series at 7 p.m. Feb. 9 in the Brundrett Conservation Education Building in the Pineywoods Native Plant Center. 

Cindy and Bryan Pruett of Appleby Community Farm near Nacogdoches will present “What is Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) and how you can get involved.”

Flutist Janzen to perform at SFA


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Elizabeth Janzen, associate professor of flute at Texas A&M University – Kingsville, will collaborate with pianist Sehee Lee to present a guest recital at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1, in Cole Concert Hall on the campus of Stephen F. Austin State University.
 
The program will feature “Legacy,” by Jennifer Higdon; “1975,” by José Luis Hurtado; “A.N.S. - A New Sound,” by Trevor Weston; and “Duo for Flute and Piano,” by Aaron Copland.
 

SFA to host Words of Art ‘Re-Visions’ collaborative exhibition


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS – The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art and the SFA Department of  English and Creative Writing will present the exhibition “Re-Visions,” showing Feb. 6 through 10 in the student galleries of the Lower Art Building on Wilson Drive.
