NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s Health and Wellness Hub is set for a grand opening at the end of the month that is the culmination of more than a year’s worth of collaboration among multiple departments and the university’s administration.

Scheduled for 2 p.m. Feb. 24, the event will celebrate the consolidation of six departments and services that used to work separately: Health Services, Counseling Services, Student Outreach and Support, the Lumberjack Food Pantry, Student Wellness and an on-campus contact for the Family Crisis Center of East Texas.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s Department of History will host Gordon Williams, an award-winning writer, producer and director, for an event titled “Beaumont’s Black History — In Moving Pictures” at 6 p.m. Feb. 20 in the Baker Pattillo Student Center Theater. The presentation is part of the Robert S. Maxwell Lecture Series.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Pianist Dr. Andrew Parr, former music professor at Stephen F. Austin State University, has joined the faculty of the Music Preparatory Division, announced Alba Madrid, director of the Music Prep program.
 
Parr brings more than 45 years of piano performance and teaching experience to the preparatory program where his wife, Linda, also teaches piano.
 

NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University's SFA Gardens will host the monthly Theresa and Les Reeves Lecture Series at 7 p.m. March 9 in the Pineywoods Native Plant Center’s Brundrett Conservation Education Building.
 
Greg Grant, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service horticulturist for Smith County, will present “Making Scents of the Genus Narcissus.”
 

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – A performance of Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony No. 4 will highlight a concert presented by the Symphony Orchestra at Stephen F. Austin State University at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.
 
Conducted by Dr. Gregory Grabowski, director of orchestral activities at SFA, the Symphony Orchestra will also perform Franz Schubert’s “Rosamunde Overture” and Camille Saint-Saëns “La Muse et le Poete,” which will feature faculty members Dr. Jennifer Dalmas, violin, and Dr. Evgeni Raychev, cello. 
 

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Dr. Jiwon Han, collaborative pianist at University of Wyoming, will perform works by Ludwig van Beethoven, Franz Liszt, Florence Price and John Corigliano when he presents a guest recital at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17, in Cole Concert Hall on the campus of Stephen F. Austin State University.
 

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Branden Jacobs-Jenkins play “Everybody” has something for everybody. It’s classic and contemporary, serious and humorous, approachable and accessible yet full of surprises.
 
Included in this year’s Stephen F. Austin State University School of Theatre and Dance’s Mainstage Series, “Everybody” is a “multifaceted opportunity for our students and audience,” said theatre Professor Scott Shattuck, the play’s director.

Austin State University and The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House will present “Oil Can Tremolo,” a solo exhibition by Kris Pierce showing Feb. 7 through March 24 at Cole Art Center. The exhibition opens with a reception for the artist from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 7.
 

NACOGDOCHES, Texas — The student-led Economics Reading Group in Stephen F. Austin State University’s Rusche College of Business is hosting a speaker event with Paul Oyer, author of “An Economist Goes to the Game: How to Throw Away $580 Million and Other Surprising Insights From the Economics of Sports,” at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 21 in the McGee Business Building, Room 133. Oyer will be joining the event via Zoom.
