Welcome to the Department of
Mass Communication

The world of communication is continuously reinvented as new media platforms emerge. At SFA, our mass communication students are prepared for the ever-changing digital world through hands-on learning opportunities with the latest technology, which allows our Lumberjacks to graduate fully career ready.

LUMBERJACK SPOTLIGHT

  • GIVING A VOICE TO THE VOICELESS

Erika Bazaldua is living her dream as a broadcast journalist. Since graduating in 2014, she quickly moved up the ranks to become main anchor on the Good Morning East Texas newscast. Erika loves sharing people’s stories and hopes to one day shed light on international conflict in areas like Syria.

  • Lights. Camera. Lumberjack in Action.

As media operations specialist for KHOU-TV, Devonte Hill preps for the morning news followed by Great Day Houston, a one-hour daily program broadcast live in front of a studio audience. Hill is constantly in motion – preparing sets, moving props and cameras and adjusting lights. He also creates stories for the show, assists in producing segments, writes teasers and cuts voiceover footage.
