SFA Children's Performing Arts Series features science, music, comedy


Super Scientific Circus, a popular show with East Texas school children, will return for the 2013-2014 SFA College of Fine Arts' Children's Performing Arts Series.

SFA to screen 'Last Train Home'


A free screening of "Last Train Home" will be at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 2, in Cole Art Center in downtown Nacogdoches.

NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - As part of its monthly independent film series, the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art and Friends of the Visual Arts will present a free, one-night screening of "Last Train Home" at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 2, at The Cole Art Center @The Old Opera House.

Registration, auditions scheduled for SFA's Music Preparatory Division


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - New students interested in enrolling in private or group music lessons through the Music Preparatory Division of the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music for the fall semester can do so from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, at the Music Prep House, 3028 Raguet St. in Nacogdoches.

"We invite students and parents to come to the Prep House on Aug. 3 to meet the faculty and learn more about our offerings," said Pat Barnett, division director.

Scholarship applications available for SFA's Music Preparatory Division


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Scholarship applications are now being accepted for music instruction through the Stephen F. Austin State University Music Preparatory Division. The partial-tuition scholarships are awarded on the basis of need and can be applied to private lessons or group instruction.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin State University Board of Regents approved faculty and staff changes during its quarterly meeting Tuesday.

SFA Board of Regents approves budget, selects creative design firm


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin State University Board of Regents has approved an institutional budget for Fiscal Year 2014 totaling approximately $237.09 million, which includes a 3-percent merit pool for faculty and staff pay increases for the second consecutive year.

The planned allocations represent a 4-percent increase over last year's institutional budget. A $4.98 million capital plan also was approved by the board at its quarterly meeting Tuesday. The plan includes capital renewal, planned maintenance and renovation projects throughout campus.

Two shows opening with combined July 27 reception at Cole Art Center

Cycles of life, connections to nature inspire local artist Corinne Jones: Work featured in upcoming SFA art scholarship fundraiser


Artist Corinne Jones works in her studio behind her home in Carrizo Creek Estates northeast of Nacogdoches. Jones is one of the contributing artists to this year's 12x12 exhibition and silent auction on display through July 20 at The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House in downtown Nacogdoches.

Family Fun Day planned at Lake Nacogdoches


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Nacogdoches Naturally will host a Family Outdoor Adventure from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 20, at Lake Nacogdoches. This fun day will offer participants a chance to enjoy water activities and share food with family and friends.

Nacogdoches Naturally is a project sponsored by SFA Gardens in the Arthur Temple College of Forestry and Agriculture at Stephen F. Austin State University and funded through a More Kids in the Woods grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture-U.S. Forest Service.

SFA Gardens lecture series to feature transformation of local home landscape


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The SFA Gardens at Stephen F. Austin State University will host the monthly Theresa and Les Reeves Lecture Series at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 18, in Room 110 of the Agriculture Building at 1924 Wilson Drive on the SFA campus.

Julie Shackelford, programs director for The Conservation Fund, will present "Urban Wildscaping: Bringing your Backyard to Life." She will talk about creating backyard habitats to attract birds, butterflies and other pollinators using native vegetation.
