Scholarship bass fishing tournament announced


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Campus Recreation Department of Stephen F. Austin State University will host the inaugural Dr. Raymond Lee Worsham Scholarship Bass Fishing Tournament on Saturday, June 29, at Jackson Hill Park and Marina on Lake Sam Rayburn in Broaddus.

All proceeds will benefit the Dr. Raymond Lee Worsham Scholarship for SFA Campus Recreation established with the SFA Alumni Association.

Registrations being accepted for SFA Summer Art Academy


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Registrations are now being accepted for the Summer Art Academy offered by the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art. The two-week camp will meet Monday through Friday, July 8 through 19, on the SFA campus.

Students in kindergarten through sixth grade may enroll in classes that include drawing, painting and sculpture.

"The academy offers an exciting introduction to the visual arts and an immersion into specific media," said Gary Parker, SFA art instructor and director of the academy.

Austin State University School of Art and Friends of the Visual Arts will present a one-night screening of "Henri Cartier-Bresson: The Impassioned Eye" at 7 p.m. Friday, June 7, at The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House. The free screening is part of the School of Art's First Friday Film Series.

SFA Gardens to host miniature fairy garden workshop


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - SFA Gardens Research Associate Dawn Stover will host a miniature fairy garden workshop from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 11, in Room 118 of the Agriculture Building on Wilson Drive.

Participants will create a magical, mystical miniature habitat designed for even the most particular fairy. Stover will assist the aspiring "gnomescapers" in creating a fairy garden of their very own. The workshop also will include instruction on making fairy garden accessories from items collected in the garden and from home.

As graduate students in SFA's Department of Kinesiology and Health Science, Lilly Kemp and Nathan Frischmann both had their hopes riding on a job at the world-renowned Cooper Clinic in Dallas. A Facebook posting by a friend prompted Kemp to apply.
