A Message from the Chair, Dr. Brian Peer

Welcome to the Department of Biology at Stephen F. Austin State University! Whether your career interests include wildlife biology, health sciences, molecular biology or conservation, you will find opportunities to learn from experts and gain hands-on experiences in both the laboratory and field that will challenge and inspire you.

Our faculty have expertise in a wide range of disciplines including wildlife ecology, cancer biology, microbiology, plant ecology, entomology, ornithology, mammalogy, herpetology, ichthyology, animal behavior, aquatic biology and cave biology. Our faculty are committed to your education and to advancing the frontiers of scientific knowledge.

At the undergraduate level, we offer a Bachelor of Science in biology, with three specializations: aquatic biology, cellular and molecular biology, and conservation ecology and evolutionary biology. At the graduate level, we offer a Master of Science in biology with both a thesis and non-thesis option. We strongly encourage prospective graduate students to contact potential advisors to ensure that faculty are currently accepting students into their research programs.
