You’ve completed your application to SFA, scheduled an appointment with an advisor, found a place to live and even mocked up a class schedule. Your next decision – how are you going to pay for it all?
SFA students have access to hundreds of opportunities to get scholarship funding to help you with college expenses. You just need to explore and apply!
New STEM Transfer Scholarship
The STEM Transfer Scholarship can provide up to $2,000 to new transfer students with a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA. To be considered for this scholarship, students must also meet the following requirements:
- have completed at least 45 transferable hours prior to entering SFA
- be enrolled full-time during fall and spring semesters at SFA
- and declare a major within one of the following departments in the College of Sciences and Mathematics: biology; chemistry and biochemistry; computer science; geology; mathematics and statistics; or physics, engineering and astronomy.
This scholarship is renewable for one year as long as the student maintains the scholarship requirements.

Scholarships for students in the College of Sciences and Mathematics
There is no separate application for the scholarships listed below. By filling out SFA’s general scholarship application, you may be eligible to receive the following scholarships.
Carole V. and Jack M. Kinnebrew Scholarship
This scholarship is for the benefit of a high academically achieving STEM major who is an incoming freshman, sophomore or junior.
Ed and Gwen Cole STEM Scholarship
This scholarship is for the benefit of a current STEM major who is in good standing with the university.
Goethe-Miller Scholarship
This scholarship is for the benefit of a current STEM major who has earned at least 100 semester hours at SFA and intends to pursue a graduate degree in a STEM field.
Harbordt-Shumard STEM Scholarship
This scholarship is for the benefit of a current STEM major who has an overall GPA of at least 2.35.
Harbordt-Ward STEM Scholarship
This scholarship is for the benefit of a current STEM major who has an overall GPA of at least 2.35.
Kalkomey Scholarship
This scholarship is for the benefit of an incoming student or transfer student who is a mathematics or biology major at SFA. Students who meet the overall requirements and are selected for the scholarship will receive full tuition and room and board until graduation, provided they continue to maintain eligibility requirements.
Karen and Wayne Davis Fellowship
This scholarship is for the benefit of a graduate student in the College of Sciences and Mathematics.
S.D. and Tessie Chambers Scholarship
This scholarship is for the benefit of a current STEM major who is in good standing with the university.
STEM Scholarship
This scholarship is for the benefit of any incoming freshman or transfer student who is a STEM major at SFA and has a minimum overall GPA of 3.5 and a GPA of 3.0 in their major. Students who meet the overall requirements and are selected for this scholarship will receive $10,000 per year until graduation, provided they maintain eligibility requirements.
STEM Chase Scholarship
This scholarship is for the benefit of a high academically achieving STEM major who is either an incoming freshman, incoming transfer student or a returning SFA student.
University Regents Scholarship
This award opportunity provides up to $3,000 to incoming students at the freshman, sophomore or junior level. The scholarship is awarded to 2 students per academic department per year. Learn more about requirements and renewals.
University Scholars – College of Sciences and Mathematics
This award opportunity provides up to $4,000 to incoming freshman who intend to pursue a STEM major. To be considered for this scholarship, students must meet the following requirements:
- Have a minimum SAT total score of 1290 (if taken in or after March 2016) or 1220, not including writing (if taken before March 2016)
- Have declared a major in the College of Sciences and Mathematics
- Provide letters of recommendation from up to three teachers or professors
- Submit a 300- to 600-word essay in response to the following prompt: “Reflect on how your upcoming collegiate experience at SFA may change you. What do you hope changes and what do you hope stays the same?”

Women in STEM Scholarship
This scholarship is for the benefit of any current STEM major who has a minimum overall GPA of 3.5, demonstrates outstanding achievement in courses at SFA and shows commitment to supporting underrepresented groups in STEM fields. Students who meet the overall requirements and are selected for this scholarship will receive $5,000 for one year.
