A message from program director, Dr. Jane Long

SFA’s JacksTeach program is for STEM students who want to become certified math or science teachers, or to try out teaching through authentic classroom teaching experiences. What sets JacksTeach apart? We focus entirely on math and science, and we get students into the classroom as early as their first semester in college.

Teachers in the U.S. rate their lives better than all other occupation groups, trailing only physicians. Becoming a teacher is a great way to make a difference in the lives of young people by sharing the STEM subjects you love and to give back to the community where you live and work. We’ve learned that over 10% of STEM majors end up teaching at some point in their careers, even if that’s not what they had initially planned. JacksTeach is a great way to explore teaching as an additional career option.

In JacksTeach, you’ll have the opportunity to observe, plan and deliver hands-on lessons with feedback and guidance from experienced math and science master teachers. We’re proud of our close-knit community of students and the individualized support we offer through advising and mentoring. Scholarships are often available, and many JacksTeach students earn paid clinical teaching positions in their final semester. We hope you’ll come see the meaningful experiences JacksTeach has to offer!
