Who can participate in JacksTeach?
Our introductory courses are open to all STEM majors. Students who are undecided, but curious about teaching, are encouraged to visit with JacksTeach co-directors or master teachers and to register for JTCH 1101 (fall semesters) or JTCH 1203 (spring semesters).
In the one-hour JTCH 1101 - Step 1: Inquiry Approaches to STEM Teaching course, students learn how to write effective lesson plans. Engaging, inquiry-based lessons in science and math will be modeled and practiced. Students will present multiple lessons within an upper elementary classroom.
During JTCH 1102 - Step 2: Inquiry-Based Lesson Design, students continue to develop their lesson planning skills while integrating technology in this one-hour course. Multiple lessons will be taught in a middle school mathematics or science classroom.
The JTCH 1203 - Steps 1 and 2: Inquiry-Based STEM Lesson Design course combines the JTCH 1101 and JTCH 1102 experiences into a two-hour, one-semester course.
Each class meets once or twice per week with no exams, quizzes or finals required.
