Summer Camp Assistants

Residence Life has more than 40 positions available for undergraduate and graduate students, and student employees will work 20 hours per week from May to August. Community Assistants and Desk Assistants

Community assistants and desk assistants make a huge impact on campus by helping fellow Lumberjacks and providing leadership in our community.

Community Assistants

Community assistants are graduate or undergraduate Residence Life paraprofessional staff members with direct and constant contact with residents. Community assistants are assigned to floors/areas ranging from 25 to 88 students in buildings ranging from 60 to 800 students.

Qualifications

  • Must have a housing contract and deposit
  • At minimum, a 2.3 GPA
  • 30 or more credit hours
  • Lived on a campus for two or more semesters (does not have to be SFA)

Desk Assistants

Desk assistants are graduate or undergraduate Residence Life paraprofessional staff members with direct and constant contact with residents. The primary responsibility of a desk assistant is to act as a communication link between building staff and residents. They help answer residents' questions, direct phone calls, provide information and complete various administrative tasks as assigned by their supervisor.

Qualifications

  • At minimum, a 2.3 GPA
  • Hiring preference is given to students who live on campus; however, living on campus is not a requirement.

Will I be notified if I am offered or denied the position?

Yes, you will receive official notification via your Jacks email account stating whether you have been offered or denied the position.

What do I wear to my interview?

Business attire is appropriate.

What is the time commitment for the position?

Community assistants work about six hours per week at the desk for the residence hall they are assigned and serve in an on-call rotation on some weeknights and weekends as assigned by their supervisor. Community assistants work an average of 20 hours per week. Desk assistants work as scheduled around their course schedule (typically not to exceed 20 hours per week).

How will I be contacted?

All job related correspondence will be through your Jacks email account. Acceptance or decline of offers must come from your Jacks email account with the original offer included in the response.

How many positions are available?

The number of positions needing to be filled varies from semester to semester. There are usually around 127 community assistants and 75 desk assistants on campus.

Can I request a specific building?

Community assistants are hired by the Residence Life Department for the position, not for a particular residence hall. The department will place staff based upon the needs of the department.
