University Series to host 'Dragons and Mythical Beasts'

This collaboration combines the expertise of licensed mental health professionals with the therapeutic benefits of working with horses, providing an innovative approach to well-being.

SFA chosen as one of 13 state institutions to expand secondary computer science education


NACOGDOCHES, Texas –– Stephen F. Austin State University’s JacksTeach program has been selected as one of 13 in the state to participate in the Texas Computer Science Pipeline initiative, a program designed to increase the number of teachers certified to teach secondary computer science courses.

UT System approves design, budget for new SFA forestry and agriculture buildings


NACOGDOCHES, Texas –– The University of Texas System Board of Regents approved today an additional $5 million be added to the nearly $80 million previously allotted to Stephen F. Austin State University for the construction of new state-of-the-art forestry and agriculture buildings on campus. The expanded budget supports the addition of an Agricultural Engineering and Technology Building next to the Forestry Building’s construction site.

SFA hosts regional dietetics seminar connecting experts and students


NACOGDOCHES, Texas –– More than 80 registered dietitians, nutrition professionals and students from across East Texas gathered at Stephen F. Austin State University for the East Region Winter Seminar, offered by the Texas Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. The event provided an opportunity for professionals and students to network, exchange knowledge, and explore the latest advancements in nutritional science and integrative health.

SFA graphic design student receives Lyle Metzdorf Scholarship


NACOGDOCHES, Texas –– Laney Wise, senior graphic design student in Stephen F. Austin State University’s School of Art, received the 2024 Advertising Education Foundation of Houston’s Lyle Metzdorf Scholarship during an awards luncheon at the Junior League of Houston. Along with the $5,000 scholarship, Wise also was presented a trophy and certificate.

SFA graduate students work to increase outreach of local health nonprofit


NACOGDOCHES, Texas –– Stephen F. Austin State University graduate students in the Rusche College of Business spent the fall 2024 semester working with representatives from East Texas Community Health Services Inc. to create a strategic marketing plan for the private nonprofit so it can reach more patients throughout the region.

New report shows SFA’s impact on Nacogdoches economy


NACOGDOCHES, Texas –– Stephen F. Austin State University accounts for more than $348 million of local economic activity and supports 4,819 local jobs, or 18% of total local employment, according to a 2025 economic report produced by the Center for Business and Economic Research in SFA’s Rusche College of Business.

Given Nacogdoches County’s total regional output of about $3.3 billion, SFA is responsible for $1 out of every $9.50 of economic activity in the county, the report indicates.
