SFA students gain sports business and media experience at men’s Final Four


NACOGDOCHES, Texas –– The 2025 NCAA men’s basketball Final Four earlier this month in San Antonio’s Alamodome served up a few nail-biting games. It also served as a backdrop for learning for 10 Stephen F. Austin State University sports business and media and communication students who volunteered for the Final Four University Student Program.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas –– From generating life in animated characters to tracking fungal species in Nacogdoches County, the research of seven students from Stephen F. Austin State University and Tyler Junior College earned top scholar awards at SFA’s Undergraduate Research Conference April 15.

Meghan Jennings, senior chemistry major and pre-health student at Stephen F. Austin State University, will be attending Baylor College of Medicine starting this summer. Jennings attributes this success to the many opportunities and hands-on support she’s received both in her studies and through the Joint Admissions Medical Program as a JAMP scholar.

Courmier tabbed Critical Language Scholarship Spark award recipient


NACOGDOCHES, Texas –– Learning a new language opens a world of possibilities. Kate Courmier is about to take advantage of them.

A Mauriceville native and senior anthropology major in Stephen F. Austin State University’s Department of Anthropology, Geography and Sociology, Courmier recently was awarded the Critical Language Scholarship Spark award, which funds the cost of intensive language training.

SFA business students earn honors at international management society conference


NACOGDOCHES, Texas –– The Stephen F. Austin State University chapter of the Society for Advancement of Management received several awards at the SAM International Business Conference in March in Tallahassee, Florida. Students from SFA’s Nelson Rusche College of Business competed with students from around the world in categories ranging from business pitch and extemporaneous speech to a case competition at the conference.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas –– The flash of golden hair, the pitter patter of paws and a damp nuzzle from a nose may not sound like the cure to any ailments, but when it arrives in the friendly form of Rudy, Stephen F. Austin State University’s newest golden employee, that’s where the magic happens.

SFA’s Counseling Services is now offering animal-assisted therapy with their new golden retriever, Rudy, to help manage student’s mental health.
