You don't need to put your career on hold to earn your degree. All coursework for this program is completed in an online environment. This flexibility allows you to balance your professional responsibilities while you work toward your goals.
You’ll learn from experienced professors during regular virtual class meetings. By incorporating data-driven research and real-world skills, you’ll hone your ability to lead as a scholar-practitioner.
Choose your concentration
You'll select a concentration that aligns with your specific professional goals: athletic director or principal certification preparation. Both require 30 total semester hours. While the core courses are the same, each concentration has 12 semester credit hours that are focused your chosen path.
Applied leadership in practice
Your growth as a leader happens in the real world. Many courses require field-based practicum experiences where you will observe, assist, tutor or conduct research. These opportunities occur in various settings, such as schools or community centers. You'll work with a mentor throughout the program. This collaborative relationship allows you to practice administrative duties and build a professional learning community. During your final semester, you will complete a comprehensive examination.

Requirements for admission
To be eligible for consideration into the program, you must:
- meet the SFA Graduate School requirements
- have an overall undergraduate 2.5 GPA or higher
- have a valid teaching certification
- have two or more years of teaching experience
- and hold a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution of higher education.
You also must maintain access to a Texas-accredited school for the duration of the program to complete practicum hours.
