Dr. Nikki Shoemaker
Dr. Nikki Shoemaker received her bachelor’s degree in mathematics and master’s degree in accounting from SFA and her doctoral degree in accounting from the University of North Texas. Shoemaker has served as the risk and compliance auditor for SFA’s Department of Audit Services. Her research interests include innovative teaching methodologies and management control systems.
Dr. Calee Jo Holcombe
Dr. Calee Jo Holcombe received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in accounting from SFA and her doctoral degree in accounting from Louisiana Tech University. Holcombe is the accounting club advisor, and her research interests include behavioral and accounting education.
Nicole Brantley
A certified public accountant, Nicole Brantley joined the SFA faculty in 2017 after serving in various capacities in the industry, including as an auditor, accountant, consultant and financial advisor. Brantley received her bachelor’s degree in history from Midwestern University and a Master of Professional Accounting from SFA. Along with her teaching responsibilities, Brantley continues to work at the Children’s Clinic of Lufkin as an accountant and financial advisor and at Rischa R Irwin as a consultant providing income tax and accounting services.
Marie Kelly
Marie Kelly received her Bachelor of Business Administration and Master of Business Administration from SFA. She also is a Texas teacher certified in mathematics and business. Kelly taught at Douglass Independent School District for 13 years where she coached students in University Interscholastic League competitions in accounting and computer information systems. Kelly has served SFA’s Schlief School of Accountancy as a lecturer and adjunct faculty member. Her industry experience includes working in public accounting and private industry in Houston, Lufkin and Nacogdoches. Her research interests include learning techniques among undergraduate accounting students, and she has developed simulations and experiential-learning projects for her courses. As a published scholar, Kelly has work featured in the Journal of Accounting and Finance and Journal of College Teaching and Learning. She is active in the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Texas Society of CPAs and the East Texas Chapter of CPAs. In 2015, she received the TSCPA’s Outstanding Accounting Educator Award.
Dr. Jose Vega
Dr. Jay Vega received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Denver, his Master of Business Administration from Colorado State University-Pueblo and his doctoral degree in accounting from the University of Texas at San Antonio. Vega joined the SFA faculty after teaching at institutions in New York, Idaho and Texas. He has been awarded the William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship and the Best Doctoral Student paper from the American Accounting Association Southeast Region. A published scholar, Vega has had work featured in numerous publications and journals. His research interests include auditing, capital markets, financial reporting and managerial accounting.
Esther Bunn
A two-time SFA graduate, Esther Bunn received her Bachelor of Business Administration in accounting and her Master of Professional Accountancy from SFA. She is a certified public accountant and is certified as a chartered global managerial accountant. Bunn joined the SFA faculty in 2007 and has experience in public and government accounting. Her research interests include auditing, government and nonprofit work, and financial and behavioral studies.
Dr. Kelly Noe
Dr. Kelly Noe received her Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of South Carolina, her master’s degree in business administration from SFA and her doctoral degree in accounting from the University of Texas at San Antonio. Her industry experience includes as chief financial officer for Hospice in the Pines, accountant for Etex Agri Supercenter and finance senior accountant for the county council of Beaufort County. Noe is a certified chartered global management accountant and certified public accountant. Her awards and recognitions include the Teaching Excellence Award for the Rusche College of Business, two-time Beta Gamma Sigma Favorite Professor, Beta Alpha Psi Outstanding Faculty Advisor and more. Her research interests are accounting information systems, the health care industry and financial accounting.
Dr. Thomas Branton
Dr. Thomas Branton received his Bachelor of Science in accounting from Mississippi State University, his Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Mississippi School Of Law and his Master of Laws in taxation from the University of Houston Law Center. He is a certified public accountant and an attorney licensed in Texas and Mississippi with an emphasis in tax law. He joined the faculty as a full-time assistant professor in 2018. His research interest is in financial accounting and individual and nonprofit taxation.
Dr. Stephanie Ross
Dr. Stephanie Ross has a PhD in accounting from the University of Texas at San Antonio, and a Bachelor of Arts in economics and finance, a Master of Business Administration and a Master of Science in accounting from the University of Texas – Dallas. She is a certified public accountant and has served as a financial accountant, auditor and tax accountant in industry and public accounting. Stephanie is the National Association of Black Accountants’ advisor. Her research interests include compensation, corporate governance and auditing.
Dr. Janet Jones
Dr. Janet Jones received her bachelor’s degree in human ecology from Mercyhurst College in Erie, Pennsylvania, and a master’s degrees in accounting and business administration from Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts. She completed her doctoral degree in accounting from the University of Texas at Arlington. Jones served as an auditor and tax accountant in public practice, and as a government finance officer before returning to academics. Her research interests include judgement and decision making, governmental accounting and accounting pedagogy.Dr. Charles Oberweiser
Dr. Charles Oberweiser received his bachelor’s degree in philosophy from Ripon College, Master of Accountancy from East Tennessee State University, and doctoral degree in accounting from the University of Missouri. A certified public accountant, he’s served as an auditor and tax accountant in public practice. Prior to this, Oberweiser spent more than a decade in nonprofit and higher education institutions working to make college accessible to first-generation students, managing housing reconstruction efforts following natural disasters, and more. His research interests include the role of individual characteristics in corporate governance and emerging technologies in accounting.
