Where classroom geology finally comes alive

Summer 2025 update:

SFA will offer a six-credit hour traveling field experience for the Summer I session with space for up to 10 students from other universities. This field course helps upper-level geology students make the all-important transition from classroom theory to real-world understanding while working in a variety of geologic settings. During the five-week course, we will use the spectacular setting of the American Southwest as a backdrop to help students explore geology in areas of compression, extension, shearing, metamorphism and volcanism.

Estimated Costs

The estimated cost for Texas residents, including tuition and fees, is $2,765. For non-Texas residents, please see the SFA Tuition Estimator for an estimate of cost.

Prerequisites

  • Igneous, Sedimentary and Metamorphic Petrology
  • Stratigraphy
  • Structural Geology

Additionally, the following course is strongly recommended:

  • Field Methods
