In the Master of Fine Arts in filmmaking program, your studies are interdisciplinary by design. You'll work closely with your graduate film program advisor to tailor your coursework toward specialized areas such as cinematography, screenwriting, production design or audio.

Program details
This degree consists of 60 credit hours. You'll spend your time mastering the technical and creative aspects of film through intensive studio work and independent study.
Applying to the filmmaking master's program
Admission requirements
To be eligible for consideration into the Studio Arts, MFA program with a concentration filmmaking, you must:
- meet the SFA Graduate School requirements.
- and achieve a 2.5 GPA overall and 3.0 GPA in the major for clear admission.
Ready to complete your application?
The application process includes two parts:
- Apply to the Graduate School.
- Send the following three items directly to the School of Art:
- digital portfolio of your films, including movies you created or played a major role in producing
- collection of your original scripts
- portfolio of your production design artwork
- statement regarding your career goals
- and three completed recommendation forms.
