Build your background

You don't need an undergraduate forestry degree to apply for the forestry doctoral program. If your background is in a different field, you’ll complete specific coursework to get up to speed. You will study areas that include social forestry, forest biology, forest resource inventory, forest ecosystem management and forest resources administration.

You’ll work closely with a faculty member to build a degree plan that fits your research interests and career goals. Your graduate committee will also help you determine if you need to complete any background coursework to ensure you are fully prepared for your research journey.
