A flexible experience
We offer this program in a traditional, face-to-face seminar format. If you live outside the Nacogdoches area, you can also join us through Zoom. Our curriculum focuses on Latin American, peninsular, Francophone, Portuguese and Brazilian studies. Whether you choose a thesis or non-thesis option, you will gain practical knowledge you can apply directly to your career.

Whether you want to pursue a law degree or add a specialty to your current field, our program provides a strong foundation. You'll graduate prepared for diverse career paths, including:
- education and administration
- international business
- law and politics
- nonprofit leadership
- and interpretation services in the medical and legal fields.
Distance-learning option
We offer distance-learning opportunities each semester using real-time web video. You must get approval from the department chair for this option before you begin your coursework.
If you attend the program on campus, you are eligible to apply for graduate assistantships.
Applying to the Hispanic studies master's program
Requirements for admission
To be eligible for consideration into the program, you must:
- meet the SFA Graduate School requirements.
- achieve an undergraduate 3.0 GPA or higher
- hold a completed bachelor's degree in Spanish, Latin American studies or a related field from an accredited higher institution
- have completed at least 12 hours of advanced-undergraduate coursework in Spanish as a way of documenting academic proficiency in the language
- and provide two letters of recommendation from former professors.
If you don't meet the minimum requirements, you may be admitted on a provisional basis under the guidance of the graduate studies advisor.
