This program offers interdisciplinary coursework on the fundamental needs of people. Our curriculum emphasizes a deeper understanding of human development, behavior and environment.

With an academic focus on advanced research and application, you'll study individuals within the context of their relationships, families, and communities. Prepare to step into a career where you can actively create community programming, lead social services, or provide specialized care to families across the lifespan.

Graduate coursework moves past general theories. You'll examine cognitive, emotional and physical changes from infancy through aging. You'll also study how families function under stress, including how they navigate conflict and family transitions like illness or economic hardship.

We'll teach you to build and evaluate community programs. You'll develop strong quantitative and qualitative research skills to support vulnerable populations. Through analyzing community issues, you'll deploy evidence-based strategies to create solutions.

Apply to the human sciences master's program

To be eligible for consideration into the program, you must:

meet SFA's graduate school requirements
achieve an undergraduate 2.5 GPA or higher overall
and be one of the following:
- in your final year of undergraduate work
- holding a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university
- or have 95 or more semester hours of undergraduate work at SFA and be approved as an overlap student.
