If you have an undergraduate degree but are not yet certified to teach, SFA's Master of Arts in Teaching is the most efficient path to the classroom.
This 30-hour online program helps you build the skills to act as a researcher, scholar-practitioner and educational leader in your future school community.

A flexible path to certification
This 30-hour graduate program is designed if you already hold an undergraduate degree but need teacher certification. You’ll earn your master’s degree while completing a required post-baccalaureate certification sequence to prepare for the Texas teacher certification exam.
Clinical experience
Your clinical requirements will be completed through a structured field-based sequence. This includes an internship or clinical experience in a curriculum and instruction setting, ensuring you're prepared to lead your own classroom effectively.
Curriculum overview
Coursework focuses on modern pedagogical strategies and educational ethics. You will complete 30 credit hours, including:
- Pedagogy courses focused on assessment, curriculum design and classroom management.
- Clinical experience offering hands-on classroom teaching hours.
- Elective courses that result in six hours of advisor-approved coursework.
- Capstone piece completes your degree program with a final comprehensive synthesis project.

Requirements for admission
To be eligible for consideration into the program, you must:
- meet the SFA Graduate School requirements
- have an overall undergraduate 2.75 GPA or higher
- or a 2.75 GPA on your final 60 hours of undergraduate work
- hold a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution of higher education.
- and achieve a passing score on the TExES pre-admission content test.
Note: If you don't meet the minimum requirements, you may be admitted on a provisional basis under the guidance of the program coordinator.
